3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Cletus (6064) - Connecticut, USA - MAY 12, 2011
Bottle courtesy of alexsdad06. Pours rusty copper and slightly hazy with a thin white head. Smell initially is an explosion of resin and pine that steadily gives way to some subtle citrus and perfumy hints. Tastes of earthy, bitter hops, some pine, pepper, with a nice bite on the finish. Enjoyable.

22 ounce bottle. Served in a nonic pint glass, the beer pours a mostly clear orange/amber color with about an inch off-white head. Head retention is good, and there’s a decent amount of lacing left on the glass. Aroma is citrusy (grapefruit, orange peel) and pine hops, along with some sweet malt. Taste is pretty much the same as the aroma, but there’s the addition of some spicy hops and bready malt. Nice lingering bitter finish. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it’s a bit slick and sticky with good carbonation. It’s smooth and goes down easy. I think it’s an enjoyable brew, not bad for $4.99 a bottle. I think it’s worth a try.

Bomber. So this pours a light orange with a medium sized head and aromas that are light... a little bit of orange and miscellaneous citrus with a little light malt sweetness. It’s pretty good on the nose, but certainly not robust. Flavor is a bit weak at the onset, but gets better as it warms. It’s more of an American Pale than an IPA in my book, but still very good. Flavor has a nice sweet maltiness... honey and that cinnamon bun sweetness (you know the one... minus the sugar and caramelized sugar) come to mind. These give way to oranges and kumquats... kind of a slightly tart citrus presence that stays away from the sharp lemony flavors. Fresh out of the bottle, I didn’t think much of it... it’s gotten a lot better as it aired/warmed and I wish I had another.

Wow, what an interesting buy. Poured from 22oz bottle - Never seen Maumee Bay Brewing in store before. Affordable bottle that packs plenty of malt and hops--most in the right combination. This one has high citrus and grapefruit.. Nicely balanced. Have no idea why this is rated rather poorly.

22 oz. bottle. A deep golden clear beer with an off white head. No carbonation visible. A floral and pine nose with caramel. Pungent hops are tasted. Citrus fruit, floral, bitterness. A nice vivaciousness is noted in this beer. Soon the bitterness and caramel equalize with the hop flavors. But in the end the citrus, including oranges, came back and mixed with the pine and caramel. Pretty much down the middle as an American IPA.

Shared pint at the brewpub. Solid IPA, straight down the American style center stripe ... nice shiny hue and a pleasant citrusy, grapefruit-dominant character. (#3802, 1/22/2010)

Courtesy of Strykzone via a trade. Poured clear gold with an off white head and light lacing. Nose is hops with citrus, flowers, and pine one top of caramel malts. The body is medium and the mouthfeel clean and smooth. The favor is solid American IPA, with citrus taste and the finish is dry and bitter as an IPA should be. Solid example of the style, with no real flaws.

22 oz. bottle shared by STLWill- thanks, Will! Pours a cloudy orange-gold with a rocky white head. Aroma of citrusy hops, sweet malts, apricot, lots of bread dough, and a faint note of plastic. Flavor of citrus, sweet malts, apricot, booze, wood, and a hint of soap. Neither of those last notes were enough to throw it off the rails but kept it from being better. Light-medium bodied, with a bitter, bready, citrusy mouthfeel and low carbonation. Unique IPA.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Onslow (713) - Kalamazoo, Michigan, USA - OCT 7, 2011
Pour from a 22 oz bottle. Slightly cloudy amber brew with off white head. Nice aroma dominated by citrus and pine hops. Taste is mild malts with much less hoppiness than expected (based on the aroma). Some citrus and pine hops, but rather subdued. Very nicely balanced finish. A little soapy in the finish. Overal, a good IPA that could use just a bit more hops, but very enjoyable.

Bomber from Belmont Party Supply. Pours a hazy amber color with a medium frothy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of caramel, earthy hops, some citrus. The taste is big citrus hops with a bit of a resiny note and some caramel malts. Medium bodied. Decent IPA.
