Black pour. Not much of a head. No lacing. Slight chocolate and malt aroma. Not much coffee. Taste is very fruity with an almost unpleasant twang. Sweet sour finish with a bit of coffee aftertaste. After the twangy bit dissipates.

A wonderful aroma of cocoa, chocolate and coffee. A good looking ebony color with a lasting off white head. A slightly sweet taste of cocoa and chocolate would be great on ice cream. Creamy feel with a cocoa malt finish.

Great beer! Pours black with a thin tan head. Smells of mocha, dark fruit, wood. Although its a little thin body, the flavor is rich and gets better as it warms up. Silky vanilla, coffee, cigarette smoke (in a good way) and oak barrel. Supper smooth aftertase of chocolate, creammy vanilla, and smoke. Excellent brew.

Johnís bottle. A bit thin for an IS. Dry and very coffee. OK drinkability. Black bodied.

From bottle. Pours opaque black with a beige head. Lots of lacing. Aroma has vanilla, with chocolate malts. Taste has a moderate sweetness, roasted malts and coffee. Nicely hopped. Full creamy mouthfeel - very nice.

Rated from a 12oz. bottle. It poured a deep, dark brown with a frothy head thatís the darkest brown Iíve seen in a while, leaving fairly solid lacing. Nose has a roasted malt front with a hit of cocoa and coffee. Smooth, sweet, creamy taste of chocolate, coffee, and malt.

Coffee stouts are hard to do well, and Maumee Bay did a great job with this one. Flavors are balanced (stout vs coffee), doesn't coat the palate. It may be a little light on mouthfeel; I kind of want a stout to hit my mouth and get comfortable there, without coating. I would definitely drink this again, though.

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate-heavy chocolate, moderate espresso, light caramel, and a touch of vanilla. It pours a dark brown, virtually black, with a small tan head that quickly fades to a thin film outlined by a thicker ring. There is a good amount of thin webbing left on the sides of the glass. The flavor starts with moderate chocolate and light caramel. There is some light fruitiness in the middle. The finish has light espresso, vanilla, and a hint of burnt notes.

12/30/13. Pours oily, opaque brown-black with a fluffy, dissipating brown head. Aroma is simple but very rich; coffee, cocoa, espresso, some dark berries. Taste is very nice; cappuccino, espresso, creamy, bittersweet, earthy, nutty, chocolate, oats; finish is long on the coffee. Really delicious. No noticeable lacing. Chewy mouth feel. Medium-low carbonation. This was a real sleeper. This sat on the shelf for a long while; seemed a touch expensive for a 4-pack or a beer I had never heard of. But boy was I wrong about this one. Really fantastic all the way around.

UPDATED: MAY 21, 2014 Thanks for the share bob! Black pour, an inch of tanhead. Roasted malt, black coffee, oats in the aroma and taste. Bakers chocolate, coffee, also prevalent while drinking this. Medium to full body with an oily mouthfeel. I want four more! - EDIT - should mention Iíve had bottles that have seemed a bit off since the original rating.
