Bottle. Pours pitch black with a very small head that quickly goes away. Aroma is super fresh espresso mixed with some light chocolate and lactose. Smells very similar to Founders Breakfast Stout. Taste is moderately sweet with lactose up front to along with the fresh espresso taste. Finish has a very light roast taste with a mild bitterness, espresso lingers a very long time. Thin to medium body but very smooth. Overall, this is a lot like Founders Breakfast Stout, one of my favs. Founder’s has a little more chocolate and a thicker body but other than that, its the same. This is a great Imperial Breakfast Stout. Good price too, I will be buying a lot more of this.

On tap 4 oz. sampler at the Maumee Bay Brew Pub in Toledo, OH. Opaque, near black with a khaki head and excellent lacing. Aroma of dark roasted malt, coffee, raisins, chocolate and dark fruit. Taste of molasses, dark roasted malt, espresso and cocoa. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at home, thanks to an IP trade with Michael C, 11/05/13. Pours pitch black with a thin dirty tan head that clears to a film but stays for the show. Nose carries a good coffee ’whack’, brown sugars, light mineral notes, roast malt, toffee fudge. Taste is coffee forward, tiramisu jus, a touch of booze, vanilla, light chocolate notes, roast malt backbone, sugars but not OTT sweet. Full bodied but at the lighter end of the spectrum, carbonation is fine, well pitched keeping the 9% eminently drinkable. Great breakfast stout, I love my coffee beers, this hits all the right notes and the 9% ABV is well disguised.

Very well done my Maumee Bay friends! Smooth as silk! Nice roasted and chocolate elements. Espresso is not on high, but a nice background element. This is much better than I thought it would be.

Very nice. Definitely a mouthful, but not too heavy or boozy. Definite delicious factor.

Fantastic aroma of cherry, dark chocolate, and coffee. Rich, creamy mouthfeel that confirms everything on the aroma, fantastic!

On draft at 1808 in Columbus. Pours a dark stout brown with a tan head. Nose is roasted malts, dark malts, plums, dark chocolate, and some slight cherry and lactose. Flavor is a nice blend of chocolate, cherry, dark fruit, and coffee. Medium in body for an imperial stout and really a nice beer overall.

Draft. Poured a black color with an average creamy brown head that mostly lasted and produced good lacing. Medium to heavy toasted malt, coffee and chocolate aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Moderate to heavy complex toasted sweet flavor with a medium to heavy toasted sweet finish of moderate to long duration. One of the best of Beer Week brews.

Poured on draft. Appearance is black with a thick, dark grey head of foam. Aroma is loaded with coffee, caramel, toffee, nuts, oatmeal and a hint of vanilla. Taste is sweet and earthy with some bitterness coming through in the finish. Really liked this beer.
