3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: thanks, Mike! Very dense, deep brown pour with a light-tan colored skin that sifts to a weak collar rather quickly. Aroma is a deep mix of coffee & bittersweet bakerís chocolate with light milky, lactose notes & a touch of residual, burnt brown sugar in the back-end. Taste is fairly sweet but far from cloying with more notes of brown sugar, creamy coffee, bakerís chocolate, & just a faint bit of roasted malt that hits the back of the tongue, adding a small amount of bitterness to balance the aftertaste nicely. Light & smooth, I had no idea this was 9% ABV. Very nice, unexpected sweet stout.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
12oz bottle. Pours a thick oily black color with a finger of rocky dark mocha head. Aroma of rich roasted coffee, caramel, burnt toast, and a hint of vanilla bean. Taste is on the sweeter side. Nice rich roasted malt, sweet caramel, fresh brewed coffee, cardboard, and some earthy hop bitterness.

Pours cola black with a brown head that recedes to the edges. Aroma is coffee, dark chocolate, cereal and caramel and dark malts. Smells delicious.
Flavor is smooth, dark, but not bitter coffee, molasses.

12 oz. bottle from Jungle Jimís. Pours dark brown to black in color with a medium sized, fine tan head. The aroma and flavor come pretty much as advertised; there is a lactose sweetness that cuts into some of the roasted malts, chocolate and some coffee round out the package. This started off a bit too cold so things were muted. Upon warming the flavors opened up, though I did note a mild lactic sour note to the finish. I want to have this on draft and fresh for comparison. Still pretty good.

12 ounce from the four pack. Thin carbonated pour. Coffee. Chocolate. A thin cherry/raspberry in the background. Bit oily. Not a huge body given the ABV.

4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Black as night with a creamy beige head. As it should, coffee dominates the aroma. Quite a bit of chocolate, as well. Whoa...one sip in and I am hooked. Texture as smooth as silk with just the right amount of coffee. Itís there, but the chocolate, oats, and even vanilla come through. Hops add a pungent, welcome bitterness at the end. The 9.1% ABV is both surprising and sneaky. Only noticable as a pleasing warmth.

served on tap at the brewpub in Toledo.
Black and opaque with a hint of dark brown at the edges. Head is dark tan, has somewhat weak retention and leaves spotty lacing.
Smells and tastes rather sweet, a tad too sweet in tasting. Less dark roast malt flavor than expected, and less coffee flavor than expected for a beer "infused with expresso". Medium-light body and carbonation. Smooth.

Bottle. Glass. Cold. Full of beer. The sound of children poured through the open windows. This is the sound of summer in year two-thousand and thirteen. From its glass prison poured a darkened ale. The color of night overwhelmed its new home. This reminds me of the darkest part of the night. Before the sun starts to live again. Coffee overwhelms the senses as the actual light from the day fades. Peppers the color of grass come to the forefront of my mind. It is late. Too late for coffee. My mouth is coated like an elderly woman in the cold months. Bitterness. Peppers and chocolate. It all blends together like the nights sky. Streaks of brown cover the new home of TE. Streaks of what once was, but is no longer. In life there is always reminders of what is no longer. Today is no different.
