COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This traditional dark northern ale has been brewed especially for the Wetherspoon Autumn 2011 real-ale festival. A lightly hopped and full-bodied beer, it has sweet blackcurrant flavours and a dryness from the roasted barley, leaving a lingering, creamy and smooth finish on the palate Hops: Goldings, Willamette

Cask handpull at Leicesyer Square Spoons. Very deep brown ruby colour with lasring thick cream head. Its a brown ale as far as I can tell. Lotz of rich slightly dry malt. Aroma of cake and malt tastes of cake and malt. Very decent condition and very drinkable. Decent beer. Lightish in abv but full of flavour and condition. Likeable

Cask at the George, Croydon. It pours very dark brown, with a decent beige head. The nose is chocolate, caramel, treacle and smoke. The taste is chocolate, caramel, wood, leather, dark dried fruit, blueberry, warming spice and coffee, with a dry finish. Medium body, soft carbonation and decent balance. Smooth and easy drinking.

[Cask at the Monk’s Retreat (JDW), Reading] Dark brown with a cream head. Smooth, sweet and comforting, with a restrained roastiness, chocolate and caramel throughout. Very mellow, one to slowly melt into and relax.

berkshirejohn (4381) - Bracknell, Berkshire, ENGLAND - OCT 11, 2011
Cask at the Cornfield Garage (JDW), Eastbourne. Deep tawny brown with a loose beige head; straightforward malty aroma; smooth with a malty flavour but lighter than the traditional "heavy"; the finish is dry with toasty malts. A satisfying malty pint.
