3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 leaparsons (6335) - Leicester, - OCT 13, 2011
Cask, Last Plantagenet, Leicester. Near black with a cream foam. Aromas are light roast malts with yeast and light berries. Cream with peat and lemon. Flavours are dry and woody with light coffee and slightly acidic berries. Chocolate with a pithy finish. More of a mild in my view, and a fairly decent one at that.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 stravale (580) - Scottish Borders, SCOTLAND - NOV 2, 2011
Cask @ The Muckle Cross, Elgin
Very dark ruby, clear, thin frothy white head.
Aroma of caramel malts, some roasted malts, molasses, fruity notes, no hops.
Taste of dark caramel malts, some chocolate, some roasted malt, hint of coffee, fruity, quite sweet, porter qualities - can’t taste the hops here, bit watery.
Palate - Quite sweet, smooth, abrupt light sweet malty finish with a slight lingering hint of chocolate, soft carb, thinnish body.
Overall - Easy drinking light porter (or slightly strong mild), but taste dulls after a while.

Cask conditioned Handpump Four Candles Oxford. A near black beer with a whitish head. I remember drinking Scotches in Cumbria many years ago, and this is close to that mark. Very low hopped. Good dryness and nuttiness. Late fruits. Has that woody altbier character. It’s pretty interesting and slips down very easily.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - OCT 17, 2011
Tasted this in The Esquire House, Glasgow (JDW) in October 2011. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear garnet red in colour with a thin loose white head which vanished rapidly. Hint of diluted ribena juice in the very short aroma. Thin fruity mouthfeel and very poor lacing. Mixed malt complex gives strong vinous fruit along with drier roast grain notes. Slight presence of hop resins gives a woody aftertaste. Finish lacks body and has a thin fruity red wine flavour with a slight hint of vanilla oak. An ok session porter but there are better examples out there though.
