Cask @ Bank, Manchester. Nicholson’s Beer Festival. Very dark but not quite black, with a small creamy off-white head. Has a fairly sweet aroma, much like a porter, although its body and taste, despite being fairly weak are obviously stout in design.

Cask conditioned handpump Scarbrough Leeds 14/04/14. A near black coloured beer with a tight white head and lace. A strightforward slightly roasty stout. fruity elements. Quite thin but obvious dark malts. It’s nice enough but quite simple. Really thin.

Cask at a nicholson’s near Covent Garden. It pours dark ruby with small beige head. The nose is toasty, blueberry, jammy, roasted malt, earth and liquorice. The toasty, earth, mild acidity, roasted malt, dark fruits and jam with a dry, fruity finish. Light-medium body and soft carbonation. A bit weak, but not bad.

Cask @ The Coal Hole in London. Aroma of burnt malts, some coffee. Not much. Very dark brown to black with light brown head. Moderate bitterness mixed with black malt. Sweetness after the bitterness leaves a nice smooth feeling in the end. Oily texture.

Cask at the Falcon, CLJ, 11/04/14. Light black meets extremely dark mahogany brown with a moderate light tan covering. Nose is roast malt, grain, earthy cocoa, liqourice. Taste comprises toffee, dark fruits, touch papery, light roast. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, drying finale. So so stout, lacks any real depth or flavour, but drinkable none the less.
