3.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 27, 2012
Clear 500ml bottle (6.0%), best before end of Dec 09, drank early Nov 09. Poured into a vase shaped pint glass (Old Speckled Hen badged).
Mahogany red/brown, clear and healthy looking, a deep head of foam sat on top, the colour of the head a light tan. Lacing held well as the beer sank.
Hops and a little malt smell comes from the glass, but like most UK beers that are asked to be cooled before serving it was almost odourless until it began to warm in the glass.
Crisp and refreshing, fairly dry from the hop content but a long way from bitter in taste. The malts came into their own as it warmed and calmed the dryness down somewhat, turning the beer into a maltier tasting beer.
Slight fizzy feel to the mouth, the alcohol can be found without any undue trying.
Not bad at all, a nice little warmer, which got better as it warmed, I wonder why they want it served chilled to 12 degrees C (as per the rear label)?

Bottled, 500ml pasteurised. Chestnut colour with white head. Sweetish from the start with pulpy fruit notes and big doses of caramalisation / toffee. The feeling is soft on the palate with just a hint of the alcohol, its rounded but just a little dull.

Nice dark brown pour, decent head. Taste is hops, wood, fairly sweet and malty with a mild bitter finish with a hint of alcohol but not too noticeable to be unpleasant. Decent enough.

Silkily malty sipper with a faintly roasty, walnut-like bitterness. Chestnut pour with clinging off-white lace. Nose is nutty with hints of vegetable and burnt malt loaf. Some dark fruit, toffee and booze in there but mostly bitterly nutty malt. Not bad at all.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 Maria (8589) - Thisted, DENMARK - SEP 3, 2007
It’s a dark golden beer with a golden head. Both aroma and flavour are quite malty, and it has sweet notes of caramel, fruit and a citrussy finish. I like the Double Maxim better I think, this is a bit unbalanced in it’s sweetish maltyness. 1701

500ml bottle from Tesco. A chestnut colour with a thick, loose, cream head; aroma of raisins and fermenting grape; rich and smooth in the mouth, starting saccharin sweet, but developing a dry roast coffee finish.
