Hippoman (646) - Durham, ENGLAND - MAR 8, 2016
Cask at The Water House (JDW), Durham, £1.99/pint. Dark, reddish brown beer with a pretty large, foamy, off-white head. The nose is all malt with sweet doughy and caramel tones. The taste is pretty sweet throughout (but not overly so) and is a pleasing mixture of bready malt and fruity - sultana, prune and dark berries - flavours. The high ABV is masked well making it a very drinkable pint.

Cask at ye olde Hamitlon Hall, JDW - London. Pours well clear, deep copper with a lingering and lace-leaving tan cream head. The aroma holds dark bread, toffee and ripening fruits. Medium sweet flavorbwith prominent malt character, some toasty toffee and brown sugar, raisins, berries. Medium bodied with fine carbonation; good condition. Finsih was sweet, bready, with some grapes, more berries, toffee, minimal bitterness. Quite drinkable. A nice malt-forward beer. Tasty.

Cask, Just J D Wetherspoons. Colchester. 7th May 2015. White lacing. Copper bronze appeaeance. Fruity yeast esters, red berry, clove and coriander. A tad musty and sweet. Slight old socks but I don’t mind that for the style. Chocolate. Taste is red berry, chocolate, woodruff, Wild English berry, mild bitterness. I think this is something like a mild meets a Fuller’s Esb. Roasting is low to moderate.
