COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Potus non frangit ieiunium." - “Drinking does not break the fast“- an ecclesiastical principle to which strong beer owes its origin. The clever monks and castle owners created their strengthening refreshment for the long 40-day fast period before the Easter celebration. Jubilator is a full double-malt beer, which one recognizes in Bavaria by the “-ator" suffix.

500ml bottle. Clear, ruby red glowing, dark brown colour with average to huge, frothy, fairly lasting, minimally lacing, beige head. Sweet-ish dark malty aroma has notes of toffee, nuts, caramel, marzipan, hints of cherry and sherry. Taste is moderately sweet dark malty, notes of toffee, caramel, nuts, marzipan, milk chocolate, hints of cherry, sherry, Marsala, dry, minimally herbal hoppy overtones; smooth, silky, soft palate, well matching, gentle carbonation. Rich and complex, superbly balanced. Wow! Nice to see what a "traditional" can offer if adequately "crafted".

Rispetto massimo dello stile, malto sopra tutto e alcol ben nascosto. Ottima con piatti della tradizione bavarese.

Appearance: deep reddish mahogany (same color as the leather on my office chair), with two generous fingers of light tan head and decent lacing; bottle has a cool illustration of a clearly tipsy goat hoisting a flagon of this beer. Aroma: typical doppelbock, so...awesome--scads of molasses, fig, rum raisins, brown sugar, plums, caramel, chocolate, a bit of leather, a hint of burning cardboard, and wood. Taste: malt bomb, with brown sugar, caramel, toffee, molasses, raisins, and some boozy flavors as well; it’s not overly sweet. Finish: slightly toasty, boozy-sweet malt notes linger, although as in the flavor the sweetness is subdued; alcohol slowly warms the chest . Notes: I love me a doppelbock, and this here’s a good one. Palate is slick and full, but not cloying; the bottle disappeared surprisingly fast. Flavors were rich and malty, right in line with what I expect in a great DB.

Aroma is rather malty with some raisins and chocolate. Flavour is also quite malty with raisins, chocolate and roasted notes. A solid doppelbock.

Bottle. Pours a deep mahogany brown body with a ruby-hued taint and a medium creamy off-white head. Nose is caramel, Norwegian brown cheese, nuts, raisins and hints of dark chocolate. Taste is smooth, yet complex dark malty tones: raisins, dark chocolate, caramel and hints of molasses and burnt sugar. Not too sweet, and fairly complex. Full body, with a rather bitter, chocolate-like finish. This is my kind of doppelbock for sure.
