Schlossbrauerei Maxlrain brews the Schloss Weisse according to a traditional recipe; the beer retains a much darker color, in much the same manner as it was brewed centuries ago. Schloss Weisse receives its fresh, distinctive, full-bodied taste through a brewing process using selected roasted malt, fine aromatic hops as well as the pure Maxlrainer water. Brewed according to Bavarian brewery regulations, Schloss Weisse reveals its premium quality in its unique, reclosable bottles.

Brown body with a two finger head. It is quite dark for a Hefeweizen. Smell of sweet malt and wheat . There are small hints of clove and banana. Sweet malt flavors take over in the aftertaste. It is medium bodied with a nice carbonation kick, quite refreshing.

Oct ’14. A 0.5 l fliptop bottle at Beertija, Zagreb. It poured very lightly hazy and surprisingly red-amber body with quite a small head for the style. (Only now I see it’s listed as a dark wheat). Aroma of caramel, some biscuit and a bit of lemony hops. As I thought it was a regular Hefeweizen I was surprised by the caramel, which dominated its sweetish flavor. There was also banana, peach lemon and only a touch of chalk. Kinda empty bodied, without too much yeasty chalk notes all through it. A bit sour in the finish besides caramel. Ending a bit disappointing. Like some kind of a Kristalldunkelweizen, interesting, not bad, but I expected more.

Bottle shared at chriso’s post-GBBF shindig 2014 - London. Pours cloudy amber with a foamy, white cap. Lots of wheat bread in the nose, some caramel, yeast. Medium sweet flavor with sugary wheat bread dominating, accented with notes of banana. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Simple sugary finish, more bread, sugar, banana. So so.
