3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 DYCSoccer17 (3012) - Woodland, California, USA - MAR 18, 2013
22 ounce bottle purchased at The Davis Beer Shoppe. Bottled on 2/7/13. The aroma has some piney, lightly dank hop characte...FUCK. WHO THE FUCK PUT BELGIAN YEAST IN MY IIPA? God damn it. I missed the part about this being a Belgian IPA on the label. Guess I was too worried about the date. Anyway, the nice aromatic hops are ruined by the annoying sweet banana and clove ester. Bubblegum, too. Blegh. Mostly transparent (chill haze?) copper-orange body with a medium light yellow head present. Starts with a nice, piney, resinous hop flavor. Some earthy character is also present. Nice. Thankfully, the aggressive bitter hopping makes the yeast esters barely apparent. This has a nice, dry, finish. More herbal and piney bitter hops to finish. This was good stuff. Just seems like the Belgian yeast is pretty superfluous. What’s the point?
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Christian (9697) - Odense, DENMARK - MAR 14, 2013
Hazy golden with a lasting white head. Bright American hop aroma with perfumed peach, orange, tangerine and pineapple. Dry with lots of fruity hop flavour and notable bitterness. If there is any Belgian character here, it’s very well hidden...
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 JorisPPattyn (7308) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - MAR 4, 2013
Sampled under the name of Cambridge Brewing The Audacity of Hops CBC Belgian Style Double IPA, and following the label, it’s NOT brewed at Mayflower B.C., but at Mercury Brewing, Ipswich... Thick, creamy, yellow-cream coloured head over lively carbonated hazy orange beer. Intense hops’ nose upon pouring, but also something roasted, even scorched. Quite dusty nose, too, as something forgotten for a loooong time. Bitter taste with citrusflavours, but the kind of citrus found in soft drinks. Bit metallic in the finish, slight CO2 sourishness, blending with the citrusstreak. Long metallic-bitter aftertaste, bit annoying. Medium bodied, very (hopoil) slick. Hops are there. Brewing date is june 2012, so all is well there too - yet it tastes as if its ingredients have been covered with dust since that CBC in ’09.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 pentaz (469) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - FEB 27, 2013
Bottle (2012-06). Pours near clear orange with a light lacing and lasting beige foamy medium head. Aroma is very malty, paper, elder-flower, grass, mango, esters, citrus.Taste is medium sweet and light+ bitter. Body is near medium, texture is oily, carbonation is average. Finishes hoppy but is in general surprisingly low on bitterness. The malt takes most of the focus and it seems a little oxidized, I’d like to try a fresh version - I expect it to be way more hoppy,

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 spacecube (348) - Leeds, West Yorkshire, ENGLAND - FEB 3, 2013
1pt 6z oz bottle, from June 2012 Cambridge Audacity Of Hops, 8% abv, , pours a hazy golden orangey-brown. with a pretty big head that leaves a lacing throughout. Well carbonated. Lots going on the aroma. Lots of US caramel malt aroma, with piney, citrus and floral hops, flavours also from the Belgian yeast, banana, slight bubblegum, quite complex. Had a few of these, basically an American IPA with plenty of hops brewed with Belgian yeast, lots of stuff going on, this one balanced well and an excellent brew.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 asheft (2264) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 29, 2013
[bottle--thanks, Rob!]
Pineapple and vitamins aroma with a peppery phenolic character and some spicy, herbal noble hops. Foggy dark yellow under a lacy white patch. Dry-ish phenolic flavour with a woody bitternesss and herbal and spicy hops. Dry and bitter go well together. Light body, medium carbonation, moderately bitter finish.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 maneliquor (1559) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JAN 25, 2013
Bottle from Mane Liquor. Bright orange with a fluffy white head on top for the duration. Leaves magnificent lacing the whole way down. Nose is bitter apricot and a touch jammy. Taste brings out more refined fruit - apricot, orange. Loads of bitter hops on the finish, nice touch of grapefruit. Creamy mouth feel with lingering bitterness. Great stuff
