Hand bottle, thanks to Craig and Dan. A black beer with a thin dark tan head. Aroma of alcohol, raisins, chocolate and caramel. Similar flavours with a warming alcohol hum. Mild carbonation and light CO2 prickle with an oily mouth-feel.

Opaque, tight covering lace. Full body, well flavored, silky, rich, fitting heat, good finish. Bittersweet, perfectly balanced acidity. Pleasantly assertive roast flavors, mostly coffee. Very complete, enjoyable stout, not extraordinary. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Broke open my 2nd of 3 today. Black with inky quality, a loose rim of tan foam and central circle of etches. Smells fucking awesome. Honey, vanilla, alcohol, oak, graham, cocoa and a little nougat. Flavor is leather, cocoa, dark chocolate, some oak and tannins, a bit of booze. Full bodied and medium carb with a chewy finish and semi dry but watering ambience. Nice beer. Wish they’d keep making this.

Bottle @ a recent bottle share... Poured pitch black with a thin, light, brownish/mostly light, tan head. Big alcohol presence on this one. Nice malty presence added roast and charred grains. Toasted sweetness, vanilla, dark chocolate too. More alcohol heat in the finish.

Black with little head. Bottled January 2011, sent about a year ago from Dr.Jay. Big coffee aroma, perhaps added. Medium mouthfeel, which is light for an IS. Very coffee taste, a minor in spice and chocolate. OK, bit not terribly drinkable. Big bitter, with a little sugary backing.

Bomber. Poured inky black with a nice, sticky cap of yellowy-beige head.. higher viscosity, and the head was easily-resuscitated. The aroma picked up sweet, toasty bourbon and oak over heavy licorice and burnt chocolate malts.. peppery alcohol and a little bit of rye accented.. vanilla and more barrel stuck on the back of the nose.. balance was excellent. The flavor opened with metallic bourbon and tangy toasted oak.. licorice, blended chocolates, and a bit of smoked malt at the core.. bourbon and vanilla were again integrated well, but the barrel became sharp right before the finish. Medium-plus bodied and very roasty on the palate.. the barrel was less complementary in the end than it was in the beginning.. overall a tasty brew that wasn’t far from being great.

Bottle dated Jan 2011 cellared until new years eve. Black oily pour with very little head. Caramel and roasted malt aroma, very little hop presence. A little light shows through, but nice much. Taste is very smooth roasted malts with a light sweet caramel flavor. A nice "mild" imperial stout in the vein of Sam Smith’s.

Bottle 22fl.oz. @ [ Tasting by Fin & Loz ].

Clear dark dark black brown colour with a small to average, frothy - fizzy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, light brown head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, chocolate, licorice, alcohol. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and light heavy bitter with a long duration, dark chocolate. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat, finish feel is light alcoholic. [20111021]

Bottle at Fin & Loz’s tasting with Jan, Charlotte, Craig, Stella & kids consumed 21.10.11 Pours pitch black with no head. This has been the smoothest of the three Impy stouts that we have tasted. Bitter and roasty at the back of the mouth, really quite fruity with plenty of warmth from the alcohol, a very light dab of soy sauce and there is some vanilla also. Interesting. [1pt 6floz bottle courtesy of cgarvieuk] Black, with a tan head. Big oaky, alcohol aroma from the start. Very strong alcohol ester flavour – alongside some vanilla, liquorice and salt (?). No abv on the bottle, but it tastes extremely strong [15102011]
