As the British Empire expanded, English brewers added extra hops to keep beer fresh for increasingly long sea voyages. The beer on board the Mayflower shared this trait. Mayflower IPA puts a descendant’s twist on this style, with a powerful hop profile balanced by plenty of malt character. We use the freshest hops from the Pacific Northwest to give this beer its distinct, piney flavor and delightful, fruity aroma.

Clear, deep amber appearance with a large, beige head and nice lacing. Resinous hop aroma with just a slight hint of caramel malt. Hops dominate, but do not overwhelm, the taste, with citrus, pine and floral flavors propped up by a strong malt backbone. Medium-bodied, decently carbonated mouthfeel leading to as assertive, bitter finish. Well made.

Pours brassy copper with robust long lasting head with plenty of lace. Satisfying blend of conifer with a hint of burnt sugar. Aroma of fruit at the finish. A proud IPA.

My Bottom Line:
The simple goodness of this valiant IPA stems from its judicious union of citrusy and piney hops to soft caramel malts, leading to a peppery, resinous bitterness.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam decorates the hazy amber.
-The mouthfeel is extremely professional; well-rounded, perfectly carbonated, admirably rendering the very clean flavor profile. Impressive for such a new brewery.
-The hop perfume is also sandy (Simcoe) and fruity (watermelon, oranges).
-Carbonation is frothy, but perfectly levelled with the residual sugars.
-This may not be the most complex IPA, or the most flavorful, but I simply cannot say anything should be improved in it. It’s simply very well done and entirely satisfying.

12 ounce bottle in pint glass. Pale copper with lasting head and lace. Nice fresh hop spicy citrus pine aroma. Mild toasty biscuit and nut malt with mild fruit and fruity sweet piney woody finishing bitterness. Well-balanced but not especially assertive. Nicely made and fresh, but lacking punch. Still, tasty and drinkable.

@CBC–on tap-pours a rich light tan head and copper color. Aroma is sweet citrus-lemon/pine hops, some medium malt. Taste is sweet pine/citrus-lemon hops with some bite, secondary medium malt. Good carbonation.

Herbal hop character with a bit of fresh pine. Very lightly sweet malt character balances it out quite nicely, but it is lacking a bit in interest.

bottle. Pours a clear medium copper color with a half inch of full, thick off white head, plenty of lacing and sticking power. Nose is heavy on the pine and citrus hop notes with a fair bit of caramel sweetness. Flavor starts with a piney bitterness with some sharp, acrid notes in the back. Hop flavor rounds out with sticky pine resin, sharp citrus notes. Some acrid astringent notes throughout detract from the flavor a bit. Decent amounts of semi-sweet caramel sweetness. Balanced flavor between hops and malt, though nothing really stands out. Palate is thick and creamy with medium carbonation. Good IPA- only suffers from being if anything too well balanced, and that astringency.
