COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As the British Empire expanded, English brewers added extra hops to keep beer fresh for increasingly long sea voyages. The beer on board the Mayflower shared this trait. Mayflower IPA puts a descendant’s twist on this style, with a powerful hop profile balanced by plenty of malt character. We use the freshest hops from the Pacific Northwest to give this beer its distinct, piney flavor and delightful, fruity aroma.

On tap at a crab shack in Plymouth, nose had very little hops, taste lacked hop flavor. Had a slight taste of dirty line.

Bottle: The aroma consists of moderate oranges, orange peel, and caramel. It pours a transparent amber with a small soapy off-white head that leaves behind some spotty lacing. The flavor starts with lots of orange and caramel. The finish is kind of fruity with some light-moderste grapefruit. Medium bodies with mild carbonation.

On tap at a taps place in Hyannis (Cape Cod) Ma. Pouered a light orange color with good lacing. Aroma is pine and grainy malt. Has an odd aroma in the background that I couldn’t place. Flavor is bitter hops with malt balancing in the end. Decent brew.

12oz bottle pours a reddish/orange/copper color with a small white foamy head that recedes to a small ring leaving sporadic lacing. Nose is hop leafs, sticky, resiny hop notes with a sweet honey biscuit malt note. Palate is smooth and crisp with a sticky, resiny finish. Flavor is thick biscuity honey malt notes with a light stingy hop resiny bite in the finish.

pours amber/golden with thinning white head. Citrus, pine aroma with a hint of malt as well. Hop bitterness hits right up front with hop flavor lingering. Palate is a bit flat and flavor dissipates quickly after initial punch. Not too bad but I would like to see a bit more malt profile here.

UPDATED: DEC 19, 2010 On tap at the Union Brewhouse. Decent brew, but I’m honestly not sure I would have identified this as an IPA. The brewer describes it as an old-school style, and perhaps that is true. Won’t have it again. 12/19/10 It’s the middle of New England Winter and the taste of anything summer is a God send. Hops my tongue! Thank you Mayflower!

Pours a mostly clear darker golden color with a HUGE amount of fluffy white head that leaves THICK lacing all around the glass. Aroma is nothing special really, but not bad by any means. Flavor is very nice - a bit fruity, a bit hoppy and very well balanced. The level of carbonation seems to be spot on - nice and bubbly as you sip. This is a really tasty IPA and something I would love to drink again. YUM!

Bottle leftover from camping up at Hill Farmstead for their grand opening. Pours a clear ruby hued brown with a medium sized sticky yellowed beige head. Nice clean citrus hop aromas, a bit of malt and caramel along with some metallic fruit notes. Medium bodied, a bit of earthy malt and hops. Finishes up with some slow lingering grapefruit bitterness.

12oz bottle from Santa. Pours c;ear copper with white head. Aromas of floral hops, caramel, citrus, and some malt. Flavors of caramel malt, bitter hops, some citrus, light pine. Finishes with bitter hops and pale malts. Decent IPA.

Bottle. Pours light amber with a white head. Nose is piney and floral hops, noticeable malt background. Taste has more of the same. Could use a bit more hops, a bit less sweetness. Not terribly well balanced either. Decent IPA but nothing special.
