COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
As the British Empire expanded, English brewers added extra hops to keep beer fresh for increasingly long sea voyages. The beer on board the Mayflower shared this trait. Mayflower IPA puts a descendant’s twist on this style, with a powerful hop profile balanced by plenty of malt character. We use the freshest hops from the Pacific Northwest to give this beer its distinct, piney flavor and delightful, fruity aroma.

UPDATED: APR 29, 2010 Pours a three finger cream head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Crystal clear amber color. Nose is piney hops. Flavor is mostly hops but some sweet malts try to balance. Fruity, hoppy finish with a lingering bitter aftertaste. $2.15 for a 12oz bottle from Colonial Spirits, Acton, MA.

12oz bottle courtesy of axeman9182 poured into a tulip. Pretty close to a crystal clear amber pour with a big off-white head that recedes to a soapy swirl and solid collar with nice delicate lacing on the sides. The aroma is fairly hoppy with a light spicy herbal hop character with a predominantly grassy aroma with hints of citrus. There is plenty of toasted pale malts that almost shows out as much as the hops in the aroma. The taste is even tamer in the hop department with lemongrass and herbal spiciness giving way to a hefty sweet malt backbone which definitely seems to dominate the hops in the taste. Only in the finish do the hops come out but with a metallic bitterness with little actual hop flavor. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation and sweeter than most IPAs on the palate. This is a decent example of a balanced IPA and I really think it falls much closer to an English IPA than an American IPA as the hop profile is actually secondary to the malts.

Great hookup from largiari! Thanks. Pours a really pretty orange/amber color with a nice white head. Leaves good lacing. Aroma is wonderfully fruity and hoppy with citrus and honey notes throughout. Flavor is fruity and hoppy with good caramel. Smooth and rather delicious.

Bottle. A pale gold pour with light foam head. Pine hops with a malt balance. Good even taste through the finish. It was flavorful but a little average.

Thanks to jayli for hooking me up with this one. Pours hazy orange amber with a white head. Nose is malt, pine, tart white/ pink grapefruit, and a bit of apricot. Flavor is fizzy malt, orange/ citrus, and a bit of pine. Finishes with pine bite and apricot. Decent medium-bodied IPA.

Bottle courtesy of Largiari. Clear golden copper pour. Sweet hops are full on the nose. Some easy spice. Lightly watery flavor with easy hops. Finish is very small. A light IPA to be certain.

Bottled. Cheesy, rusty, generic cheap IPA aroma. Stale and bland. The kind of aroma that gives IPAs a bad name. Flavor is mostly just bitter with too much crystal. About as generic as IPA gets.

This pours a deep golden color with a nice head. Aroma is of hops, some floral, and a slight citrus. Taste is of hops, malts, and a little pine. Has a bitter aftertaste. Not a too bad IPA, but really nothing special.
