3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 MartinT (6934) - Montreal, Quebec, - AUG 23, 2009My Bottom Line:
Cherry-like fruitiness accompanies roasted flakes and chocolatey touches in this well attenuated, soft Porter.
Further Personal Perceptions:
-A hefty head of foam dwindles into the mahogany-laced blackness.
-The body is rather lean, and carbonated with big bubbles, making for easy drinking.
-Pumpernickel bread flavors are apparent throughout.
-The finish is lightly roasty and sweet, fittingly concluding this clean Porter for neophytes.
Bottle.

Pours brown with a thin light brown head that dissipates quickly. Nice aromas of molasses, smoke and burnt caramel. Nice balance of sweetness with bitter chocolate in a light to medium body, somewhat slick mouth feel, with average carbonation and a bitter finish. Pretty good.

Moderate malt aroma. Brown color with a small tan head. Light bitter beginning that gets sweet in the middle and fades back to bitter in the finish.

Pours brown-black with a beige head. I smell malt and hints of honey and dark fruit. The flavor is surprisingly much better than the bouquet. I taste balanced cereal, chocolate, coffee, and sweet roasted malts. It’s actually difficult to distinguish distinct flavors, because everything is balanced so perfectly. It finishes with subtle grassy hops and a pleasant soft maple syrup aftertaste.

Bottle from Mayflower Compact Variety Pack in P-Town. Very dark brown, nearly black pour. Thick beige head. The aroma is complex for a porter, toasted malt, coffee, ash, wet wood, and some green herbal hop notes. The mouthfeel is rich and medium to full bodied. The flavor is roasty and woody, quality coffee, prunes, booze. A really nice English style porter.

Shared by Lunch. Thanks Paul.
The beer is dark brown, nearing black, with a quarter inch of beige head. The aroma brings roasted malt in the English style, toffee, dark fruits, hints of chocolate. The flavor brings toasted malt, roast, alcohol, toffee. Pretty tasty. Medium to light bodied. Overall, very drinkable and tasty. Would happily throw back a pint of this on another occasion.

Single bottle purchased from Leary’s. Pours a ruby-tinted mahogany which sustained nice lace on the sides of the glass, but no head. Smells pretty Porter-basic; also I detect cucumbers, brown malts, charcoal, soy sauce, browned sugar and booze. Tastes bittersweet with notes of cinnamon, yeast, hops and caramel. By mid-palate it’s hinting at liquorice and molasses. Ends slightly tart. Decent.

12 oz bottle served in a DFH signature glass. Bottled on 12/23/11. Big thanks to Gushue3 (Mike) for the extra.
A: Pours a dark black with some dark cherry edges. A light khaki head forms on the pour and recedes to a nice thick collar.
S: Nice oaty malts, light green hops and bakers chocolate fill the nose.
T: Nice roasted oats up front with a nice chocolate and slight raw coffee bean flavor in the middle. There is a slight hops presence from the nose in there as well. The finish is a dry bitter coffee.
M: Medium bodied with a nice carbonation. The finish is chocolatey with a mild dryness.
O: A very solid porter across the board. Very balanced and the drinkability is solid as well.
