COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
One hundred years after the Mayflower landed at Plymouth, a new beer style emerged in England. Taking its cues from “Three Threads”, a bartender’s blend of three distinct ales, Porter became the beer of choice for 18th-century Londoners. Mayflower Porter embraces this history. This complex brew is smooth and full-flavored with notes of roasted coffee beans and bittersweet chocolate that will warm the palate all year long.

A nice brown body with a tan head that had some retention and a little lace. Aroma had a nice mix of roasted and chocolate malts as well as a nice smoke note. Flavor seemed well balanced, but leaned ever so slightly towards the sweet chocolate malts. Finish was smooth and slightly dry. It was light on the palate, but still enjoyable.

On tap at the Book & Bar, Portsmouth, NH. An attractive deep chestnut colour with a ring of cream head; aroma of coffee and drinking chocolate; rich fruity coffee taste; and a satisfying finish. A really good porter.

Rcvd in trade. The appearance is a pitch black colored body with a slim white one fingered foamy head that drops to a speckled sticky foamy lacing. The smell has a delicately balanced coffee to chocolate - a nice gentle burnt and roastiness. The taste is pretty much the same as the aroma with a crisp dry roasty chocolatey aftertaste and just a dry finish. The palate sits fairly light on the body with a gentle sessionability to it. Carbonation is slightly smooth but also shows some harshness to keep one from pounding it. Overall, what a nice English Porter, probably the best one I’ve had today by Mayflower as I would definitely have this again.

Draft @ GBBF. The pour’s brown with a tight head. Red highlights. The nose is roasted grain. Some toffee, cocoa. The taste is similar. A bit of roasted coffee. Chocolate syrup. Medium body, soft carbonation. Merely OK.

Draft at GBBF 2013 - London. Pours brown with a light, beige cream head. The nose has toasted brown bread and raisins. Light sweet flavour with dry brown bread and faint, earthy bitterness. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Balanced finish of toasty bread and dirt, along with accents of dark fruits. Solid effort here.
