Mayflower Summer Rye Ale is our first take on a summer beer. Low in alcohol, this beer combines rye spiciness with mild and fruity bitterness to provide a well-balanced and refreshing beverage for those hot summer days.

Very mild and dry. The rye flavor against the hops is present yet unremarkable, which could be a good thing if one was looking for something sessionable with a touch more flavor than usual. The yeast character is what’s tripping me up on this one. This is made for someone else.

GBBF. Hazy pale gold beer, suddy white head. Light palate - clean and slightly dry. Nice light floral hops with a touch of citrus well buried. Mild fresh hop sting. Mild minerals. Not sure about rye spice - maybe but the hop string is disguising it. Semi dry finish. Light and refreshing.

On tap at Portsmouth Brewery. Pour is straw yellow with some slight brown tinting around the side. Very light for a rye ale. Little to no head in the glass when it arrived. Aroma is of straw, lemon citrus, and yeast. Flavor is similar but with some slight rye bread in the background. Light bodied and easy drinking, calling it a rye ale is a bit strange because I’d expect more of a body.

Cask at GBBF 2012. It pours hazy straw yellow, with a thin white head. The nose is spice, soapy lemon, wheat and dough. The taste is straw, hay, wheat, soap, citrus pith, light spice, grapefruit, orange and tangerine. Light-medium body and low carbonation. An enjoyable and tasty session ale.

12oz bottle into a belgain stemmed super glass. Pours a lemonade yellow, head grows and then fizzels to a small ring around the glass. Taste is of lemon, grass, faint citrus, honey, spices, and hop particles. Quite a groovy brew for a hot day, as the northeast experiences a heat wave. Fantastical in the sense that its an easy drinker, and the abv is super low. And again, that may be its downfall as well. Good brew here.
