2.3 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
UPDATED: MAR 30, 2005 My first Balkan beer. This is brewed in Vojvodina though, which is more panonic than balkanic....whatever . So, what did I expect from our eastern neighbours....nothing much really, but I’m drinking this completely without bias. Typical pale lager look, pale yellow, quite carbonated, medium fluffy head. Nothing groundbreaking. Nose ? Dust, unpleasant malt, lemon. Interesting taste, but not in a god way grainy and watery, a bit stale. Suprisingly fine aftertaste (compared to the actual taste) - nice bitterness and lemon. Left me underwhelmed though. I expected a bit more really. What had me laughing was the label, which says "Brauerei MB", and "Pilsener Bier". Probably to trick the unwary into thinking that theyre buying and drinking something German. I wish they imported their Premium and Dunkel instead of this.

2.9 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
A friend bought me this back from Serbia, along with a couple of other Lagers. This proved the better of the lot. Poured into a Pils’ glass, it quickly formed a short dense white head, that webbed down the glass. Body was a pale translucent straw colour. Aroma let this beer down!, minimal malt sweetness faded into grassy hops, brine and egg yolks. In the mouth the beer was very spicy with bitter hops down the side, good mouth feel, minimal sweetness, spritzy carbonation and a short crisp aftertaste. No ’off’ flavours, but a let down for aroma (may have been the sample). Not a true Pilsner, but a decent Pale Lager, good for the Summer.
