Bottle at a riverside restaurant in Vianden, Luxembourg. Pours an extremely dark, deep crimson-violet hue. A small, foamy, dark tan head leaves a soapy wash to mostly rejoin the body below. The aroma, which comes across a little boozy, is based in brown sugar malt, with earthy, phenolic fig, dark raisins, and a hint of smoky molasses. Flavors are very much the same, again based in dark brown sugar and molasses malt. Notes of rum cake, bread yeast, and dark baking spices lend an earthiness that makes up for the lack of balancing hops. Medium-full on the tongue and balanced, the palate sports a light booziness that shows on the semi-dry finish. Pretty good brew.

750ml Bottle. Pours dark brownish amber with a lasting creamy beige head and good lacing. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of toffee, yeast, spice and some dark fruits. Flavour is sweet without becoming sickly, displaying elements of caramel, yeast, malt, brown bread, spices, dates and raisins. Medium bodied and well balanced, this is a good scotch ale yet still distinctively Belgian. I would definitely drink this one again.

Pours dark mahogany, dissapearing foamy dirty white head. Aroma is malty, yeasty and sweet, a little alcoholic. Taste is quite unexcpected, a blend of belgian yeast, malt and sugar, plums and prunes, with a malty oaty british ale background. There’s something in here that remind me of a commercial bitter like John Smiths but I’m not sure what. All in all quite tasty and unusual. Finishes quite carbonated and sweet.

Malty aroma with a mild grape yeast smell. Dark amber color with a small tan head. Light sweet beginning with a tangy fruit finish.

Belgian scotchish ale. Brown caramel taste with a lot of foam. You dont really taste the alcohol due to the brown sugary taste. Lot’s of spices and a probably one of the best Scotsch ales.

My first scotch ale and I was impressed. Brown in color with a huge white head. Good lacing. Smell was really nice with spices, caramel, brown sugar, dark fruits, and of course yeast. Taste was pretty much the same. No major bitterness to it and sweeter than I thought it might be but not in a overbearing way. Pleasurable and will try more scotch ales.
