Mc Chouffe pours a cloudy brown with a cloudy yeast sediment and a huge foamy head. The nose is sweet toffee, caramel and light scotch. A hint of fruit on the nose. The taste is sweet and bready with a toffee malt with a light spicy yeast and malty. The finish is dry and spiced well with a big body. Its a good beer, but not amazing.
4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 whitecap (163) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 2, 2011
750ml bottle from the SAQ. Pours dark brown with a voluptuous beige head. Aroma of dark fruits and roasted/caramel malt and yeast. Some floral hops. Flavour is sweet with minimal bitterness with lots of sweetness. Alcohol is well hidden. I don’t mind the excessive sweetness and lack of substantial bitterness. Highly enjoyed this beer.

BBE 11/2013 - Pours dark brown with a small foamy white head. Aroma has notes of raisin, caramel malt, syrup and yeast. Taste is quite sweet and carbonated with notes of raisin, caramel malt, toffee. Finish is warming, slightly sticky and sweet. Okay, slightly too sweet and unbalanced.

Bottle. Pours a near black, dark brown with a medium white head. Good lacing and a constant stream of bubbles along the side of the glass. Aroma has dark pitted fruits and roasted caramel malt with a touch of chocolate sweetness. Flavor is rich, but a short lived aftertaste.

At the Red Lion. Not as peaty and smokey as other scotch ale but then this is a Belgian version of a scotch ale and well tastes like a belgian + scotch ale. Caramelly and sweet. Serving: Bottle
