3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 ruigo (310) - PORTUGAL - MAR 18, 2013
I must confess that I was expecting more from this one after drinking its sister one. A very good aroma and a nice look. Brownish colour, medium to high carbonation and a persistent head but a little too much alcohol notes for me. A good beer though.

A very nice Belgian Strong. Another solid offering from Chouffe. Brown, caramel body, some alcohol and dark fruit.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 TURDFERGUSON (3581) - Carrboro, North Carolina, USA - MAR 12, 2013
Bottle from Spirit Haus. Cool labels, but these beers are not really my thing. Dark hazy reddish brown with a small sudsy white head. Nose is lightly metalic and bloody, some spice, spruce, clove, dark fruits. Flavor is similar-- I always find their beers to be overly spiced which does not work well with the already overly sweet malt flavor for my tastes.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 dalfaro86 (210) - Mexico City, MEXICO - MAR 12, 2013
Pours a cloudy dark brwon brew with a small beige head with poor retention, aroma is moderate to heavy sweet and low bitter with notes of caramel, sweet chocolate and fruity esters( orange and peach), médium bodied, flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and moderate to low bitter with notes of caramel, sweet chocolate, spices and fruity esters (mainly orange), bittersweet finish, citrusy bittersweet aftertaste, good balance.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 NeoHippie2 (474) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - MAR 12, 2013
This was ok, not bad but not great. Dark brown pour, unfiltered. Aroma seems a bit reserved, getting those malt notes but not as much dried fruit, belgian sugar, yeasty notes that I like so much. Very crisp and refreshing as compared to rich and complex. Decent, I guess I just like the really robust Belgian strongs.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 WheatKing (744) - Oak Bay, British Columbia, CANADA - MAR 8, 2013
Brown with lasting head. Another one of those tasty strong Belgians. Sometimes I wonder why I drink anything else. A lot of malt sweetness with those spices and dark fruit, emphasis on the former this time, quite earthy... feels rustic.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 kraddel (919) - deurne, BELGIUM - MAR 6, 2013
draft. pours clear brown, white foam . too much carbo, dry sugar, earthy. not nearly as good as the la chouffe
2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 dasdan (160) - BELGIUM - MAR 5, 2013
33cl bottle from de Bierhalle Eine, Sour aroma and taste of sweet caramel and yeast, strong carbonation. Misses some body.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 VALIS (210) - Nashua, New Hampshire, USA - MAR 2, 2013
Typical pleasant Belgian dark ale scent -- plums, dates, malt. Taste is both sweet and sour, but not strong in either. Low carbonation, nice chewy mouthfeel. A pleasure.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Pdubyah (121) - Auckland, NEW ZEALAND - MAR 1, 2013
I wanted this to be so much more than it is, the carbonation surprises and hide the front taste of the malt, and does not hide the alcohol bitters.
But this is a strong beer that is drinkable and will get you into trouble, there is no complex thinking or stretching for taste descriptions, they are pretty low key and just present.
In a class of it’s peers this would be a "achieved" and not a Merit or Excellence.
