| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Nov 26, 2006 Pours cloudy, dark, amber hued/brown with a nice creamy/frothy tan head. Lightly sweet brown sugar-like, and mildly spicy yeast aromas. Flavors are similar to the aroma, with some slight nuttiness, and a little hint of smoke. Palate is lightly effervescent, flavors retain well, with a lightly creamy feel. Well balanced and enjoyable. Nicko (191), Ashfield, Australia

| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Nov 19, 2006 11.2oz bottle. Aroma: Sweet malt with a brown sugar note. Juniper and allspice, yeast, dark fruits, toasted nuts, and a thick breadiness. Appearance: Dark reddish-brown. Light beige head was full and creamy with decent retention. Nice lacing. Flavor: Sweet malt, again with a brown sugar quality. Jammy dark fruits, toasted nuts, bread. Sweetness doesn’t linger into the finish. Palate: Medium-full bodied. Moderate carbonation. Some alcohol warming in back of mouth. Overall: I liked this beer, but was also somewhat disappointed by it. Didn’t have the rich melanoidin caramel flavor that I look for in the style. Still, worth a try. SudsMcDuff (1842), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston, Texas, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Nov 14, 2006 what is this stuff, not a scottich, not a brown ale, not even an "abbey" ...its like a strange mix of them all, a big disappoint with this, after having la chouffe in amsterdam, this is a bastard, a good beer yes, but not near great. some wine like qualities, in taste and smell...has a nice puddle of head, in the chimay glass it had a nice boob puddle. If I hadn’t paid $12 for the bottle i would be alittle nicer to this beer, MAYBE on tap ONE day but, if u can find it on discount do it! JoshuaB (428), Detroit, Michigan, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Oct 25, 2006 Draught at the brewery, very dark brown with a large bubbly beige head. A dry malty aroma, some licorice in there, and vinuous notes. A medium and smooth mouthfeel with rich malty flavours and a light bitter finish. Was hoping for more, though still good.
