330ml bottle, poured into La Chouffe chalice. A: Very dark mahogany, 90% opaque, two finger tanned head which faded quickly leaving a bit of lacing. S: Brown sugar and mollases, some yeast. T: Fudge, prune, fig quite sweet but not boozy. M: Smooth, decent carbonation, thick but not cloying. O: Good, a beer without obvious faults, only minus point was the fact it can be interchanged with quite a few other BSDAs.

Bottle, 355ml. Pours a deep ruby colour with a creamy tan head. Discrete aroma, with some pleasant barnyard hints. Heavy and complex, with strong malt and dry fruit character to back the bitter finish.

750 ml bottle from Bottleworks, relatively fresh.

Pours a deep beautiful caramel tending toward red through which the light glows. In my St. Bernardus chalice, there is a foamy tan head, relatively short lived, along the top. An easy 5/5 for appearance, and I give very few of those.

Aroma of cut green apples and spice, honey, toasted raisin bread, and as strong a metallic "sucking on a penny" aroma as I’ve ever experienced in a beer. The flavor is drier than I expected - wow - quite a surprise. Lots of bready malt - think challah bread - and some raisin. A slight hop touch in the close. No glaring flaws anywhere, but there’s not all that much going on here. Almost creamy mouthfeel, maybe even a chalky texture, but rather watery compared to expectations. Given that the La Chouffe, N’Ice, and IPA Tripel all broke 4.0, I can’t help but feel a bit let down. I’ll revisit the others; I’m less eager to do so with this one.
