I wanted this to be so much more than it is, the carbonation surprises and hide the front taste of the malt, and does not hide the alcohol bitters. But this is a strong beer that is drinkable and will get you into trouble, there is no complex thinking or stretching for taste descriptions, they are pretty low key and just present. In a class of it’s peers this would be a "achieved" and not a Merit or Excellence.

Chestnut brown, small white head, malty aroma. Balance of malt, brown sugar and alcohol flavours. Thin mouthfeel and the booze sits a little heavy in the finish. La Chouffe is excellent - this is only good.

From bottle. Aroma has burnt malt and yeasty notes. Taste is balanced with fresh fuzziness to it. The strenth from the ABV is felt but not to much. High carbonation

Afgelopen week gedronken, want het was toch net herfst. Heerlijk zacht donker bier, wat makkelijk weg drinkt.

750 ml bottle. Dark copper, slightly hazy, with a big, creamy and fluffy off white head. On the nose grain, slightly roasted malts, some nuttiness, dark fruits and light alchool. Pleasent sweetness, quite velvety and slightly vinous, with notes of milk chocolate and brown sugar. The alchool is very well hidden. Soft to average carbonation, medium body, slightly oily texture. Good.

Bottle at The Fiddler. Pours hazy brown with a bit tan head. Aroma of caramel, overripe dark fruits, raisins and leather. Flavour is moderate sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Not bad at all but why does it need to be as strong as 8%...

0,33l bottle (best before 06./16.). Brown color with beige head. Aroma is vinous and sour. Taste is quite sour with some candy sugar in background. I believe that the bottle I got was spoiled because it was quite sour, more like a lambic or something like that. It’s rather disappointing and surprising from the brewery. I’ll try to re-rate as soon as possible.

Small (330ml) bottle from Kris Wines. Aroma has a bit of spice; flavour was a little light thought. Have enjoyed this beer more in the past, so I think the larger bottle and draught versions perhaps work better than the little bottle format.
