When this beer was poured into my glass, it had a large tan head with fine-small sized bubbles that was fully diminishing. The body was mostly clear with lively carbonation observed. The nose was that of alcohol and some mild clove. The flavor was spicy and malty and the mouthfeel was tingly along with a burning sensation as it is swallowed.

what is this stuff, not a scottich, not a brown ale, not even an "abbey" ...its like a strange mix of them all, a big disappoint with this, after having la chouffe in amsterdam, this is a bastard, a good beer yes, but not near great. some wine like qualities, in taste and smell...has a nice puddle of head, in the chimay glass it had a nice boob puddle. If I hadn’t paid $12 for the bottle i would be alittle nicer to this beer, MAYBE on tap ONE day but, if u can find it on discount do it!

FROTHINGSLOSH (3205) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - JUN 29, 2011
Sampled from a 750 ml brown bottle this beer poured a hazy caramel color with a large tan head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was sugar, faint sweet malts and was rather bock like. The aroma was sweet candied dark fruits with a woody and nutty undertone. The finish was long with sugar and nut. Medium body. Solid.

Boittle. Pours dark brown with a nice head and delicate lacing. Aroma is an old barn that once housed spices and hay. Earthy tones in the nose as well. Very spicy flavor, with cinammony yeast being very noticeable. A bit of carrot seems to be in the finish somewhere. Very earthy and demanding. Palate presents a quickly fading flavor that leaves an acidic bitterness. It’s a little better than average.

Citrus, malt scent. Deep golden amber, huge head, some floaties. Big hops flavour, some spice. Great tongue tingle. Terrific Scottish Ale!

330 ml bottle. From bierzwerg.de.
Dark reddish brown colour with average size light tan head. Toffee, caramel, nougat, chocolate, dark fruits and mild bitterness in aroma. Dark fruits, mild bitterness, Belgian yeast, raisins and bready malt. Complex enough.

rauchbier (3135) - Isle Of Beer, Lincolnshire, ENGLAND - APR 8, 2003
Bottle conditioned. Chestnut, good initial fluffy white head and high level of carbonation. Spicy aromas of earthy hops and roasted malt mingled with alcohol. Fruity, raisin tinged in the mouth with more roast malt and alcohol. Long complex finish with a dry spicy corriander note mixing with the tingle of hops and a lingering whisky and chocolate note at the end

This beer is an almost clear, deep amber color that has ruby highlights when held up to the light. It is topped by a thin light brown head. The aroma s slightly tart with notes of dry raisin character, bits of toffee, a touch of roasty almost coffee-like notes, and a finish that reminds me of rum.

The taste is rich with a fruity sweetness that is a mix of raisins, figs and a hint of toffee. The finish has a light, though sharp bitterness and a certain astringency or spiciness that is fermentation driven. Either way these notes in the finish provide a great balance to the sweet, fruity character found up front. This beer has a really nice balance to it that makes it quite enjoyable. It is rich and satisfying with out being cloying, or even without destroying the smooth drinkability of this beer.
