Bottle: Pours a nice rusty maroon color with a dense, creamy tan head. The aroma has great malt character with notes of toffee, fig, lots of plummy character and just the slightest earthy touch. Great creamy body. The flavor has some toasted toffee, cocoa, plummy notes, some grape like fruitiness, some warming/pleasant booze like qualities, yet it remains balanced with a toasted residual Belgian malt note into the finish. Nice stuff, and a nice Belgian-style interpretation of a Scotch Ale.

750ml bottle from the Pizza Port bottle shop in Carlsbad. The beer was way to cold when I started on it. As it warmed, everything improved dramatically. Poured a muddy brown color with a good sized beige head. Not a big nose but, hints of clove spice, caramel, and some dark fruits. Creamy mouth feel with a slight tingle. Next time I will start this brew off at around 55 instead of 40 degrees.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 lithy (2913) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 26, 2009
Best by end of 2011. Slight foamer leaves a cherry red body with three fingers of cream colored head. Settles quickly. Aroma is yeasty and slight alcohol burn. Some smoky malt, chocolate and caramel sweetness. Taste is more sweet malts, caramel and a bit of peat but still very Belgian with the yeasty spices.

Pours a dark cloudy reddish brown with a nice tan head. Brown sugar, dark fruit, raisins, caramel, spice, pepper, earthy flavors, and a bit of chocolate. Quite tasty with a medium silky body and moderate carbonation.

Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were malts, caramell, chocolate, hint of coffee, hops and bitterness. Aftertaste was malty, sweetish and bitter. Nice balanced beer.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 bluevegie (2852) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - MAR 31, 2004
Light red/orange coloured body with a large tan head. The aroma was of predominantly spices and then fruit. Taste was spice once again noticeably ginger and then some smoke, alcohol was well hidden and it was easy to drink. Beware!
