Dark brown color, tall tan head, seems highly carbonated.Fruity aroma with hints of alcohol and hops, and mild malt. The taste was quite good malty well carbonated and fruity with a mild spice to it.This doesn't seem much like a scottish ale with this much carbonation and it doesn't have the body to fit the style IMO,but still its a fine brew and the price is right for the size bottle it comes in.

Tap. Brown pour with red highlights. White clingy head. Aroma amd taste of mild caramel, faint amounts of dark fruit, very minor carbonation - very smooth. Good beer.

La moins commune, même dificile de se procurer des deux d’Achouffes au Québec. Je l’aime pas mal mieux que La Chouffe. Une bonne saveur de scotch, une arome chaleureuse. Je n’ai pas dégusté la versoin RJ.

Pours with a huge yet quick, sand-colored head over a rubied-mahogany body loaded with yeasty granules of joy. A lingering metallic presence detracts from an otherwise pleasant aroma. Tart and wooden with stone fruits and moldy cheese. Diverse flavor moves from tart yeasts to lightly sweetened earthiness to cherries and some dark fruit. Palate can’t seem to make up its mind with a thin viscosity that seems watery yet finishes dry. As the last yeasts pour in, the mouthfeel becomes full and almost creamy (gaining a point) and I can imagine I’m drinking the draught version. Esters sneak in and become rather robust late. In all, I very much enjoyed this and wish I can remember where I bought it .

Most noticeable thing was the massive head on this one. Would have preferred that I could have noticed the flavor more, but it lacked anything too exciting. Agree with other reviewers that it’s far more reminscent of a Scottish Ale than a brown, as it didn’t have the chewy maltiness of the latter. Nice effect on the palate with the huge head. Very sweet, but just not that impressive for a Belgian.

Morgan’s tasting, 07MAR09. 750ml bottle. Brown with a beige head. Yeasty nose, dark fruits, raisin and chocolate. Chocolate flavors, nuts and more dark fruits. Good!

Bottle-Pours a deep, but slightly transparent mahogany body, with a nice beige froth sitting atop, leaving nice lace. Spicy, fruity nose with molasses, brown sugar, cherries and plum, with a touch of wood. Sweet Belgian candy sugar is up front, with peppery spices, some wood smoke, cherries and prunes. Quite effervescent and refreshing given the style and ABV. High drinkability. Well crafted.

UPDATED: MAR 26, 2009 Fantastic reddish-brown color with a nice foamy lacing head. Fine toasty aroma of caramel and candy sugar, nice spicy character of clove and cinnamon with some vanilla. After a while when the beer opens, there are some fruity character of fig and honey. Smooth mouthfeel with sweet and toasty caramel, some nuts and fine spicy taste of the fermentation. Strong in alcohol but it is not an off flavor. Balanced and delicious beer, absolutely correct!
