A Scotch Ale? This is easily the best scotch ale I have ever had. The pour is brown with a tall bubbly, soapy head. The aroma is spicy and raisany. There is plenty of sparkling carbonation. Quite refreshing and very good at clearing the palate. No lingering aftertaste or film in my mouth like I have experienced with cheaper scotch ales I have had before. This was delicious.

750 ml. bottle. Shared with Gabe. Poooours an initially exuberant, the collapsing off white head, with slight lacing, over a moderately cloudy amber (SRM 10) body.... nose is heavy with sweet malt (toffee/caramel) and light dried fruit (raisin, cherry, plum)....taste is sweet dried fruits, with some carmel, brown sugar finishing with a light hop bitterness.....mouth feel is light, carbonation low. This is slightly light in mouth feel compared to many of the typical Scotch Ales, but it has all of the characteristics in the stlye. It is not a malt rich as some, but again, it is all there. BJCP 8/2/14/4/6

nice mellow artisian brew with coriander spice, hops and an old plum flavor that mellows fine when well rested after opening. fine bread pudding flavor and consistancy. bit of alcohol present it is more a brown ale as written on the bottle. good dough and yeasty mouthfeel. still bright in the sweetness.

UPDATED: JAN 31, 2010 Deep brown with red glow, thin instantly dissipating head. Sweet aroma of fruits, caramel, forest, yeast and some alcohol. Deep fruit, yeasty and alcoholic aroma, hints of caramel. Nice full flavoured beer, good combination with my boerenkool.

From a 750 ml. green bottle with a blurb and serving suggestions on the back label. Sampled at a cooler cellar temperature in a La Chouffe snifter. Poured a hazy golden orangey hued brown with a foamy, creamy off-white head that settled into a thin bubbly lacing, minimal amount of sticking. Aromas of bubble gum and spicy, earthy alcohol, peppery hops and sweet grainy, lightly caramel malts. Good carbonation and a crisp, dryish, creamy smooth medium bodied mouthfeel. A nice velvety taste, light sweet caramel, bubble gum and clove yeasty, grainy, peppery spicy hops, a soft fruitiness that mingles with the alcohol, the alcohol provides a warming presence in the palate, and a dry spicy, yeasty, sweet malty finish. Easy, smooth drinkability, another good ale from this Belgian brewer, well worth trying.

UPDATED: MAR 24, 2005 Dark brown in colour with an off-white head. Lots of carbonation. Aromas of caramalized malt, yeast, and cut grass. The flavor is an odd combination of sweet malt and spritzy saison-like flavors (citrus, yeast, etc...)... it tastes good, but still somewhat muddled.

Bottle. Dark brown with a large light beige head. Caramel, malt yeast and fruit in the aroma. Quite an effervescent, medium to full mouthfeel. Malty, caramel taste with raisin and some spices at the finish. Well hid alcohol until the strong and late warming. Quite highly carbonated which downgrades the mouthfeel a bit. Very good.

Pours brown, with a vigorous head that dies almost immediately. Aromas are malt, yeast, and alcohol. Flavor starts out sweet, with spice, malt, and a bit of mustiness.
