Bottle. Aroma of sweet malt with some tart/sour notes. Wet earth and a hint of juniper and pine. Pours a muddy brown/copper with a quickly fading white head. Flavor of toasted sweet malt. Hint of earth. Some sweetness (toffee) and some dry, bittering hops. Medium bodied.

Bottle Stirchley Wines Birmingham.
This used to be a real favourite of mine back in my formative years of belgian beer guzzling so was interested to know if this had stood the test of time. Cloudy dark brown colour with a decent lingering rocky muddy coloured head. Sweetish malty and quite boozy flavour with spice and dark fruit notes. A bit more rough around the edges than I remembered. OK but vaguely disappointing.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 iwantalambic (1473) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - NOV 23, 2003
Pours a opaque, plum red. A dense, light tan froth slowly dimishes and exudes aromas of nutty raisins, sweet banana alcohol, and peppery yeast all with a wonderful earthy component. Amazingly tight, bubbly carbonation is heavenly on the tongue. The tingly palate is lasting and contains wonderful flavours. Strong, dark cherries, oak, bitter milk chocolate, dense with other fruits: pears, sour apples and something tangy. A fabulous brew.

Sweet licorice aroma, very belgian. Good carbo, fruity licorice tastes. This one was aged 2 years. Nice work being patient with this one Oakes! I haven’t had a new one, but Oakes says that is matures very well.

26/03 A 0.75 l bottle from beershop.hr. New style for me. It poured murky brown to red body with particles and really huge head. Aroma is yeasty, with orange and candies, some smoked malt, as peat is felt, combined with caramel. Flavor is party bitter, partly sweet with first impression of strange metallicity. It turns out later to licorice. Beer is spicy itself, that smoked malt is quite strange, resulting in whole palette of herbal flavors, mixed of course with sweetish caramel malt. Pleasant, longer finish with alcohol being hidden quite well. Really a good beer, even with that strange component I was not used to it happen I liked it and became about the best thing that came from beershop this time.
