Draft - Poured a hazy brown with a thick off-white head that stuck around. Aroma is yeasty, fruity, malty and slightly sweet. Flavor is strong with yeast and sweet malts... some dark fruits and nuts. A bit too sweet for me, but still a quality brew.

Muddy brown with floating chunks and a lively tan head. Caramel bread aroma. Earthy amd woody flavors with brown bread. Quite spritzy. Interesting interpretation. Few of the distinguishing characterestics of a scotch ale. Not bad though.

Bottle at a pub in Gastogne. It poured a hazy dark brown liquid with a medium sized pale red-brown head. Fruity smell with malts and a bit of chocolate. Fruity taste with red berries, wineous, malts and yeast. Slightly harsh mouthfeel with a high amount of carboanation and medium thick body.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Savvy1982 (1319) - Lethbridge, Alberta, CANADA - JUN 17, 2009
Bottle. Pours a great reddish-brown with a pale tan head that quickly reduces, with no real lacing to speak of. Nose is full of toffee, raisin, nuts, wine gums, taffy, grapes. Nose is obviously Belgian and very sweet, with just a hint of sour cherry that slowly becomes more assertive as the beer warms. A hint of funk is present, but only just. Palate is more red fruit, jellies, candies, a sour turn is present, like a sour cherry Jolly Rancher, that keeps this beer interesting. Soft plums and caramel on the finish.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 highlandlad (1319) - Blue Mountains, AUSTRALIA - JAN 19, 2005
These guys make dangerously easy-to-drink strong ales. May the good Lord forgive them for all the hangovers they’ve caused, the magnificent bastards. I’m not sure what tartan the gnome on the label is wearing but he’s welcome to join my clan. It pours a plummy brown colour with a healthy rocky head. The big ripe nose hints at the high alcohol content. Rum and raisins, with a handful of nuts for good measure. It’s medium-bodied and slides down a treat, leaving a firm bitter hop finish. Great balance, with hints of madeira, fruit cake and nuts. It lacks the muscle of a true Scotch ale but it’s a terrific act in its own right. It’s light enough that you could drink it on a warm summer day. Well done gnome - or as they say in the home of Scotch ales - go on yersel wee man. (Bottle)
