Pours a dark copper with lots of fizzy head. Bready peat malt and Belgian yeast aroma. Flavor is faintly smokey and a little spicy, but the Belgian yeast throws off the true authenticity of a Scottish ale. Hides the alcohol well, but sort of in a style all by itself.

Clear reddish brown ale with a thick moka head. Herbal hops, like gras, with coriander notes and smoket peated. Some dandelion develops later. In mouth, a chocolate malt with herbs, dandelion and gin alcohol, with hints of licorice" medium bodied. Bottle at L’Autre Oeil, July 26, 2006.

Getrunken beim 1. Test vom 30.12.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 12,11,11,10,12,11 - 11,00

Very huge creamy head, not stable. Beer rather dark-amber than brown. Nose of roasted & caramel malts, spices. Herb-bitter, like Jägermeister. Spices, no hops above perception treshold. Thick malt base, but not sweet. Just a bit of liquorice and wood retronasal. Full-bodied, thick maltfeel. No alcohol-burn, but the wooden mallet is lying in wait. Aftertaste is again quite spicey, without any particular spice or herb coming to the fore. All in all, quite truer to the British-Scotch ale, than to the Belgian 'Scotches', which would have more overwhelming burnt malts. But the alcohol is Belgian.

UPDATED: DEC 13, 2011 Draught - White Horse - Parsons Green London SW6. A deep brown coloured beer with some candy sugar in both the aroma and taste. There is some spritziness to it but it is thin and not really reminiscent of a Scotch ale IMO. Score 3.1

The Scottish cousin sets up his own piece of earth…On it he cultivates chocolatey raisins, dry fruit and caramel…Once in a while he spreads them out on the ground with some bitter orange peels and woody hops…Let the jig begin…

On tap. Finally rating this. Pours with a hazed deep brown body with a small, off-white head that fades to a ring. Aromas of bubblegum, sweet, rich malt notes, sangria (yes, sangria), brown sugar, light citrus acidity (nearly lime like), dark fruits and a few esters. Flavors are malty, chewy, fudge, raisins, molasses, syrup, esters, dark fruit. A bit of a vanilla, tongue depressor note. Chocolate. Medium bubbles. Rich through the beginning but finishes dry. Good.
