This is one great beer. A wonderful flavor, not sweet. Creamy for sure. A bit of spice but some good balance between light and heavy. Truly excellent.

UPDATED: FEB 18, 2007 This is almost as good as Chimay Blue or Grand Reserve. It is one of the best examples of a Belgian Strong ale that there is in the World.

Very Belgian. Not too sweet. Alcohol tastes stronger than it is, at 8%. Good, strong but easy drinking.

75cl bottle from a bottle retailer. It pours a murky dark amber-brownish liquid with a high and consistent tan head that lasts throughout the beer and leaves a nice lacing. It looks delicious. The aroma is very complex: at first, some smokiness comes to your nose, later followed by some dark fuits, spices, burnt caramel and brown sugar. The flavour is very similar, but less smoky and with a little wood. It is extremely sweet, but not annoying; it blends perfectly with the alcohol, giving a pleasant maltiness with no booze to sense. There is also a little bitterness, which is stronger in the aftertaste, when some grassy hops suddenly appear, along with a new hint of smoke. It is softly carbonated, with a full body and a creamy mouthfeel that leaves all your mouth wanting more. It ends dry. Perfect presentation for a nearly perfect beer! A MUST!

My favorite beer! Laying it down for 9 months makes quite a difference. Flavor is unique among Belgian browns.

Presentation: It was poured from a green 1pt 9.4oz bottle into a tulip glass. The abv is listed at 8.0% on the label and the freshness date reads "BEST BEFORE END 2011". The label also has a description of the beer its ingredients and the brewery. Appearance: It is cloudy and dark brown in color. Through the murky body lots of visible carbonation can be seen rising up to the thick tan head above. This thick tan head has a dusting of darker brown yeast that looks like it was sprinkled with cinnamon. The retention is excellent and it leaves lots of cool lace rings and patterns. Smell: The aroma is very big and pleasant. It has wonderful sweet bready a fruity maltiness with sour, funky and earthy yeast. Taste/Palate: It has a deep rich malty character with notes of rich sweet breads, some dark sweet fruits, and sour cherries. It also has a defiant Belgian yeast influence as well, with some funky, dusty, earthy notes. (All in good balance) Also in good balance are the hop notes which are kind earthy and floral. They bring a good balance of hop bitterness to the finish which is a prefect mix of all complexity. The palate has a smooth firmness with a very lively and active yet gentle carbonation. Notes: Outstanding!!! (IMO) I love the balance, the complexity and the feel.
