UPDATED: JAN 8, 2006 Big head which dissipates to a thin foam which last the duration of the drink. Great carbonation also. Aroma is slightly complex with caramel, raisins and some other spicey notes. Color is a very nice dark burgendy. Flavor is a little sweet with some more spice and caramel. More complex that the aroma. Finish is smooth and creamy with a nice alcohol warming. A top quality "scottish ale"?. Deductions though for not being a corked 750.

Much more of a Belgian style rather than a Scotch ale, it is much like a quad or dubbel. The aroma has yeast, sweet fruit and malt. Very dark brown and a cloud of sediment. Sweet flavor that is best at room temperature. Some alcohol presence that may or may not show depending on how much you drink in any one sip. Full bodied. I would change the style on this one, but a good beer no matter what its called.

Dark brown, hints of ruby. Thick brown head. Sugary, malty and spicy aroma. Hints of almond and alcohol. Nice. Sweet roasted malt, brown sugar, pepper, hazelnuts. Sweet finish, notes of chocolate, nuts and spices. A fantastic beer!

33 cl bottle, "Best Before End 2007." Rating #MCC! (Get it?) Served at about 45°F in a tulip glass. Deep brown with ruby red streaks in the light. Thin, tenacious head. Smell of unwashed sugars, some light fruits. Rich, sugary Belgian dark ale more than Scotch, I think. Caramel malts start to pick up, and a bit of smoke or phenol. Richly carbonated, helping to bring out more of the alcohol. Raisins and dried fruits after that, just a suggestion of cinnamon and crystallized ginger. Mild bitterness really can’t stand up to this Belgian sweetness, but this is well sweetened, not cloying. A great, contemplative brew that, for once, I pulled from my cellar at just the right time.

Brown hue with reddish tint and a huge off-white head. Wet paper sack, spices, fleshy fruits, caramel, bittersweet chocolate, cherry wood, and earthy yeast aroma. Moderate sour/acidic initial taste which warms up with a mild alcohol presence. Sweet malts and aromatic hops lead to a dry and woody finish. Medium-bodied with a fizzy mouthfeel. Well made Belgian brown ale with all the characteristics found in the best of genre (scottish ale my arse). Maybe I'm biased since I lived in the Ardennes region for a year, but I love this beer! Highly Recommended.

NIce ruby amber, crazy head and lace.Nice yeast and caramel malt aroma(some spice). The taste is very good.I wouldn't say that this a scottish ale but a brown ale as stated on the label. It's rare to find this malt character in a belgian.Nice spritzy feel to the mouth.Once again in a green 750 bottle/crown capped(what's up w/that?)

750ml. Attractive mahogany color, hazy with floaties, and sporting a steady one-finger mousse. A spicy, grapey nose is loaded with exotic tropical fruits against a nutty malt background. The sweetish toffee flavor hints at vanilla, Frangelico, toasted almonds, anise and gingerbread spice. Somewhat reminiscent of tawny port. There is a brief fruit candy (PEZ?) character in the finish, as well as noticeable ethanol warming. Restrained pinpoint carbonation lifts an otherwise thick, tactile mouthfeel. Orchard fruit, wood, and charming “farmhouse” mustiness in the aftertaste. A fantastic ale that just begs for a ploughman’s lunch… or a perfect accompaniment to a crisp autumn afternoon.

UPDATED: APR 25, 2005 Cool label. Big head, little aroma. Tastes a bit like a dunkel or Vienna? Really tasty beer, malty sweetness, bit of an astringent and nutty finish. My favorite brown.
