4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 timdom (14) - AUSTRALIA - NOV 29, 2008
Bottle from Celebrations in Belmont Perth Australia.
I was introduced to this beer over 10 years ago and it’s still a cracker in my mind. The thing I find most enjoyable about it is the harmony the good people at Brasserie d’Achouffe have found with the rich chocolate colour, delicate spice on the nose, caramel malt flavour, velvety mouth feel and creamy finish. Each charicteristic compliments the next and there are no surprises, it’s just the way it should be.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 JonMoore (1573) - Loughborough, Leicestershire, ENGLAND - NOV 18, 2005
Bottle. Dark brown with a large light beige head. Caramel, malt yeast and fruit in the aroma. Quite an effervescent, medium to full mouthfeel. Malty, caramel taste with raisin and some spices at the finish. Well hid alcohol until the strong and late warming. Quite highly carbonated which downgrades the mouthfeel a bit. Very good.

[Sampled in Trysil, Norway.]
A worldclassbeer. Toffeehead and complexi aroma of fruits and yeast. Oaky flavor with brown sugar and some smoke, just a hint. Looking forward to visit brasserie Achouffe in Belgium in august 2007.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Dorqui (1547) - Brescia, ITALY - FEB 14, 2006
UPDATED: SEP 16, 2007 Bottled 0,75L at Oberon (Ospitaletto) [ABV 5.0%].
A lot hazy dark brown color. Dense and extremely bubbly one. Much bulky and supporter head, optimal persistence. Elegant aspect. Much rich and spiced scent; notes of humid forest, spices like pepper and marjoram, smoked malt (light). Much racy and prickly taste, enough dense and solid one with a sweet and harmonious final. A lot fruity with main notes of dark grapes and small fruits. Determined but most pleasant alcohol tenor. Without excesses.
4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 frankenkitty (1953) - Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA - JUL 31, 2007
Pours with a huge yet quick, sand-colored head over a rubied-mahogany body loaded with yeasty granules of joy. A lingering metallic presence detracts from an otherwise pleasant aroma. Tart and wooden with stone fruits and moldy cheese. Diverse flavor moves from tart yeasts to lightly sweetened earthiness to cherries and some dark fruit. Palate can’t seem to make up its mind with a thin viscosity that seems watery yet finishes dry. As the last yeasts pour in, the mouthfeel becomes full and almost creamy (gaining a point) and I can imagine I’m drinking the draught version. Esters sneak in and become rather robust late. In all, I very much enjoyed this and wish I can remember where I bought it .

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 beerandrugby (210) - Nashville, Tennessee, USA - FEB 21, 2005
bottle. poured a nice dark mahogony with a slight white head, good lacing. aroma of sweet malt, spiced rum, brandy...initial mid sweet malt taste with a maple/ rum and yeast hint...the hops were light but pleasing in how they round out the beer. The palate could have been a little fuller feeling. this brew was very reminiscent of corsendonk and westmalle dubbel as well as close to many scotch ales. I enoyed this very much!
4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 TerryR (383) - Oswego, Illinois, USA - DEC 30, 2006
Hazy brown/orange with a tan head. Complex aroma - fruity, musty, grainy malts, alcohol and a touch of smoke. Flavor is caramel, malt, with some earthy yeast tones. Pepper hop finish. Very smooth and seamless for such a complex beer. Excellent.
4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 manuchampions (1154) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - OCT 29, 2010
Sampled at Fall Gerryfest 2010. Pours brown, cloudy, opaque with a thin, light tan head that leaves a heavy lace on the glass. Aroma has chocolate, maple syrup, spices, grassy notes and a bit of alcohol. The flavour is very nutty, very chocolatey, some maple syrup, sweet malts, mild taste of funky yeast and fruitiness, and mild hop bitterness. Alcohol is also perceptible in the flavour, but barely so. The beer finishes somewhat dry. The mouthfeel is creamy, bubbly, and not too thick. Very good.
