4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 Lumpy (1802) - Carrollton, Texas, USA - OCT 9, 2007
Bottle. Very dark tawny red/brown with a ½ inch red/brown foamy head. Nose-dusty, spice, black pepper, cinnamon, medium CO2, anise, brown sugar, big sharp mouthfeel with some spice but not too sticky, black cardamom, green tea, cane sugar, bready, alcohol fig, black cherry, apple skins, Dr. Pepper. I really like the perfect spiciness balanced with the sweetness. Good earthy clay flavors. This is pretty much everything I look for in a Belgian. Like most beers with this kind of gravity it sweetens as it warms.

A nice Belgium Scotch ale. Dark colour, with a large fluffy off white head atop. The nose was full of dark stone fruit, spice, and intrigue, the palette was lively and brought out the spicy side of things a bit more. A bit of caramel also going on I think.
Over all a very nice drop, and a great way to end the year (and welcome the next).

Why not MAC Chouffe? Goldy brown and cloudy with a noisy bubbly tan head. Very full balanced flavors seem to feature dark dry fruit and caramel, spice pears and demererra, a light spiking of hops. Aroma indicates taste. Hey this is what it is and what it is is pretty good.

Rusty caramel pour with a great, tight forming head that stays the whole glass. Spritzy aroma is mostly light fruits - pear, apple with a slight sourness and funky yeast note as well. The body is light and sweet, with subtle notes of wet wood and earth that blend nicely with the more dominant apple notes. The alcohol is absolutely silent in this from start to finish.

Bottled. Hazy amberish brown colour, mediumsized beige head. Aroma is sweet malts, caramel and yeast. Flavour is caramel, sweet malts and yeast, mixed in a very pleasant way. Hides the alcohol well.

75cl bottle from Belgium. Very red brown colour with beige thickish head. Lovely smell of rich malt and red berries. Some yeast and strong belgian ale aromas. Good in mouth. More rich malts and berries on the end. Lovely
