Bottle: Pours a nice rusty maroon color with a dense, creamy tan head. The aroma has great malt character with notes of toffee, fig, lots of plummy character and just the slightest earthy touch. Great creamy body. The flavor has some toasted toffee, cocoa, plummy notes, some grape like fruitiness, some warming/pleasant booze like qualities, yet it remains balanced with a toasted residual Belgian malt note into the finish. Nice stuff, and a nice Belgian-style interpretation of a Scotch Ale.

750mL capped bottle. Dark brown pour with short lasting bubbly off-white head and very little lacing. Decent carbonation, good mouthfeel. Caramel malt and light hops make this a slightly sweet drinkable beer. Overall, quite decent.

UPDATED: SEP 11, 2009 75cL bottle from Aarschott. Great beer, recommend trying it. It tasted more Belgian than Scotch influenced.

Bottle - Murky dark red/brown. Huge beige head. Fairly good lacing. Low carbonation. Medium to full bodied. Caramel malts, dark fruits, spicy. Alcohol only just shines through. Very nice.

750ml bottle. Pours a dark, clear mahogany with a billowy off-white head and good carbonation. Aroma is very well-balanced with both a citrusy bite of hops alongside an earthy hint of malt and yeast. Body is smooth and full with flavors of dark fruit, malt, and molasses giving way to a slowly evolving finish that’s both sweet and strong, almost like a strong dark rum. Another delightful hybrid from Chouffe.

26/03 A 0.75 l bottle from beershop.hr. New style for me. It poured murky brown to red body with particles and really huge head. Aroma is yeasty, with orange and candies, some smoked malt, as peat is felt, combined with caramel. Flavor is party bitter, partly sweet with first impression of strange metallicity. It turns out later to licorice. Beer is spicy itself, that smoked malt is quite strange, resulting in whole palette of herbal flavors, mixed of course with sweetish caramel malt. Pleasant, longer finish with alcohol being hidden quite well. Really a good beer, even with that strange component I was not used to it happen I liked it and became about the best thing that came from beershop this time.

mmmm...i do loves me some good scotch ale. this one is lacking in pretension, which is refreshing. its light despite the style, a robust amber colored flavorful brew. bright and grainy yet surprisingly none of the alcohol burn you would expect at 8%. very well done.
