Thick head and lacing, nose of rum, raisin, earthy. Tasted with alcfron and another, we did agree there was some cola to it.

Bottle at the Flying Saucer in downtown Raleigh during the new 4$ for 7oz of Belgian anything night. Mahogany color, hazy, medium fizzy off-white head. Aroma is cloves, and caramel. and a hint of yeast. Flavor is fruity--plum, peach, apple, raisin, and spicy--ginger? Very smooth. Delicious.

Thick, frothy Belgian-style head on an attractive ruby-toned body with moderate-high carbonation. Aroma of figs, cherries, cola and alcohol plus an odd note of mustard seed. Also has a roasted nutty quality plus some solvent character. Medium sweet liquor and earthy malt flavor with kerosene and leather notes. Sticky smooth palate. Distinct, complex and challenging.

Pours a slightly cloudy dark brown body, with a ruby-red glow and a light-brown frothy head. Okay head retention and some visible carbonation. The aroma is dominated by malts, with caramel, toffee and roasted notes. Some grape, port-like quality is also present. A faint hint of chocolate and some alcohol. Starts out with a moderate caramel sweetness, with a hint of chocolate, then the port-wine-like taste comes through. Some sourness and a touch of spice. The finish is a bit bitter, as some hops do come through, and roasty, with some dark chocolate notes. Medium-bodied on the palate, with some carbonation. Quite smooth overall. The alcohol is well-masked for an 8% beer. Above average drinkability for a 8% beer. I had the whole 750ml bottle to myself, and started to feel the warming sensation after a while.

Very enjoyable dark beer. I like this one even better than the regular La Chouffe.
