Tap. Brown, somewhat cloudy. Aroma is suble and dry. Has some nice basement action going on, along with some grass. Flavor is malty and delicious, with some spices and dark fruits present. Yum yum.

Appealing translucent brown pour with off-white head. Aroma of orange, plum and sweet malts that follows through in the flavor. Acidic notes in the aftertaste in the form of a slight sourness in addition to some very slight peppery notes. Thin body and lots of fizz. Enjoyed this.

Im not sure if i’ve even tried a scotch ale before. but this beer seemed alot like a belgian strong or even an abbey Quad. pours a cloudy brown, with a large active head. aroma of bread, fruit and some sweet malts. taste is of sweet malts, ripend fruit and some other things i can put my finger on. from what i remember of last night it seemed very good and easy to drink. of course that might be because i had a few stronger beers before this one.

Dark black/brown with thick creamy light brown head. Smell was a caramel spicy aroma. Taste was caramel spice with a hint of nuts.

Poured a dark red with a thick, long lasting, off white head. Aroma is of plums and holiday spices. Flavors are also reminiscent of these with the addition of green apple, pear, and cherry. There is also a subtle earthy, herbal hop character present. A little dry for a scotch ale but it makes for a lighter, more warm weather brew.

750ml bottle. Poured murky, bubbly copper-brown into a goblet with a large, rapidly-diminishing, foamy tan head. Gorgeous sticky lacing. Rich malt and yeast character on the nose, dark fruits and horseblanket, dark bread and just a little champagne. First taste is sour with assertive (but not unpleasant) alcohol, very spicy with a little biscuit. Almost reminds me more of a tripel. Vinous notes and some vanilla. Short, medium-sweet finish with a little bitterness and a whisp of smoke on the back end, with lingering sweetness in the aftertaste. Rich, chewy, lively palate with tingly, slightly warming alcohol. Tastes very Belgian rather than particularly Scotch, but a very enjoyable beer nonetheless.

A tasty brew that everyone should try again and again. Hopefully Delirium Cafe will even have a bottle next time. Aromas of fruit and candi sugar. A deep, dark brown with a nice, thick tan head. Flavors of pale malt, deceptively simple, accented by candi sugar and caramel notes ... again, some hints of dried fruits. A nice, full palate.

UPDATED: JAN 3, 2009 No date on bottle. Brown-maroon in color with no clarity and a fairly full, fizzy, off-white head; settles quickly to a lasting, fairly small, frothy head leaving minimal lace. Nose is mostly Belgian-like and certainly rich with malts but faint; notes of spicy yeast, dates, figs, Belgian chocolate with rich brown sugar and light earth with a typical Achouffe spiciness. Flavor is similar but seemingly more rich with less Belgian characteristics; forefront is brown sugar and some maple with also date, chocolate, and toasted caramel. Palate is lively, medium-full, and soft-feeling but lightly viscous. Finishes mostly sweet with lots of brown sugar still and some light notes of earth and it dries out as it progresses. Nice, rich, Belgian-influenced scotch ale but seemed to carry more Belgian character than Scottish. Certainly lots of typical Achouffe notes which are pleasant, but nothing in this to make it worthy of great marks; still enjoyable though.
