UPDATED: OCT 27, 2007 Bottle - Best Before End 2008. Deep brown pour, large light tan head which maintains throughout. Aroma is bready, malty, fruity, Belgian yeast. Wow. This stuff is delicious. Spicy, bready, lots of darker fruits and yeast, sweet malty finish. This has many layers of flavor. It really is a scotch ale/Blegian strong ale. Slight warming from ABV, but barely noticed on the palate. How have I overlooked this for so long? Damn, damn good.

0.3l for $6 and served in an official Mc Chouffe glass at the Brick Store Pub. It looked black and was topped by a white head as it approached the table. Served up in its "official" glass this beer looked like a fine desert. Go here: www.achouffe.be/newen/produits.php find the Mc Chouffe picture. It looked just like that ("picture is worth a thousand words") and was poured from a tap. Good job! It had a overriding fruity aroma. Not tropical fruits, but dark fruits. Liquid plum! …With some spices. Oh, man! If you like to eat ripe plums you’ll like this. It is creamy and light on the palate as well. I’ve also had this in a 750ml bottle. Not as good in the bottle, but there was nothing left in that bottle either.

On tap at Mile Square in Hoboken. Dark brown color, sweet and malty. Great beer all around, but i think it is better off the tap than in the bottle.

750ml green bottle from The Lighthouse in Manchester. Pours a slightly hazy copper-brown with a good inch of light tan head. Smells fruity - grape, cherry, citrus - with hints of caramel, chocolate, and smoke. Tastes fruity also, with strong roasty chocolate and caramel, with hints of peatiness. Slight alcohol warming toward the finish, though it is less noticeable with the vigorous carbonation. On the lighter side of medium-bodied. Very very drinkable and extremely tasty. Nothing wrong with this one IMO. One of the best Belgian darks I’ve had in quite some time.

Bottle foamed over when I opened it. Maybe because it was in my backpack for a bit. Poured into slim goblet style glass. Nice seafoam-esque head. Superb, intricate lacing. Aroma is red wine--I might actually mistake it blind--like a very spicy and hot cabernet. Some dark fruits and a lot of alcohol. Perfect serving temperature--probably high 40s to low 50s F. Flavor is rich, sweet, thick, dark fruits, with a matching mouthfeel--yet somehow, the palate stays light and bouncy. A touch of bitter at the finish, but more alcohol heat. Finish is long, wet, and flavorful. This is a beer for kings. Just fantastic.

Bottle picked up at Zyn Calgary. Pours a dark with red hue and a lpretty large khaki head. Smells spicy, but mainly swett caramel. Great lacing. Tastes so sily smooth, caramel and bitter. Great, will revisit.

Mc Chouffe is a cloudy raspberry brown ale with clumps of yeast swirling around in it. It has a huge head that leaves great lacy foam on the glass. Foam started blasting from the bottle after I opened it. There are herbs and bread in the aroma, along with something tropical like melon and a note of phenol. It’s pretty full bodied and super soft with a dry, chewy finish. It’s almost a hint sweet with a spicy herbal bitterness. The malt is thick, like caramel. It tastes earthy and perhaps slightly resiny. The slight sweetness stays steady as the juniper-like bitterness grows. Both flavors linger for a while after the swallow. There’s almost a hint of anise and some sort of herbal tea. This is a real treat to drink: Well balanced, flavorful and interesting.

Lovely wooden brown in color with a medium fading lightly tanned head. Develops aromas of basement and dust, yeast and hints of roasted malts. Fizzy on the tongue building up a slick bit thin texture but which develops some mouthwatering bitterness. The roast pertains on the palate but which is not unpleasant, far from it, it actually adds to the finish and makes the body. Amazing beer!

So my bottle is set to expire in 2013...meaning this thing is old, and what can I say..wow...just..wow... nice malty sweetness up front, very smooth on the way down. I think the age has done this one well

Tap in tulip at Masons in Minneapolis . Brown with thick frothy head. Nice fruity aroma. Dark fruit with some funk. Very smooth . Finishes warm. Not the best chouffe, but still excellent.
