This is one of the fullest bodied, tastiest beers I can recall having tasted. I had this in Haarlem, Netherlands, and it was nice and fresh. Very full and malty, excellent head - a must have!

Stops just short of being sweet and malty, has just enough hop. Some Belgans get too sweet for me not this one. Great nose, color.

Sweetness. Sweet flavor, good malty aroma and excellent dark apperance. One of my favorite Scottish ales.

Like it’s brother LaChouffe, a great intro to Belgian dark ales. Lots of flavor, malts and spice. Does age well so you don’t have to drink the whole case in one day!

750 ml. Roasted nutty, fig aroma. Dried apples, touch of maple syrup (or carmel) and brown sugar flavors. Perfect touch of acidity. I really loved this beer, it could be because of the current Scottish ale kick I'm on but I think it also had something to do with the Belgian artisanal interpretation of the style.

UPDATED: OCT 27, 2007 Bottle - Best Before End 2008. Deep brown pour, large light tan head which maintains throughout. Aroma is bready, malty, fruity, Belgian yeast. Wow. This stuff is delicious. Spicy, bready, lots of darker fruits and yeast, sweet malty finish. This has many layers of flavor. It really is a scotch ale/Blegian strong ale. Slight warming from ABV, but barely noticed on the palate. How have I overlooked this for so long? Damn, damn good.

750ml green bottle from The Lighthouse in Manchester. Pours a slightly hazy copper-brown with a good inch of light tan head. Smells fruity - grape, cherry, citrus - with hints of caramel, chocolate, and smoke. Tastes fruity also, with strong roasty chocolate and caramel, with hints of peatiness. Slight alcohol warming toward the finish, though it is less noticeable with the vigorous carbonation. On the lighter side of medium-bodied. Very very drinkable and extremely tasty. Nothing wrong with this one IMO. One of the best Belgian darks I’ve had in quite some time.

0.3l for $6 and served in an official Mc Chouffe glass at the Brick Store Pub. It looked black and was topped by a white head as it approached the table. Served up in its "official" glass this beer looked like a fine desert. Go here: www.achouffe.be/newen/produits.php find the Mc Chouffe picture. It looked just like that ("picture is worth a thousand words") and was poured from a tap. Good job!
It had a overriding fruity aroma. Not tropical fruits, but dark fruits. Liquid plum! …With some spices. Oh, man! If you like to eat ripe plums you’ll like this. It is creamy and light on the palate as well. I’ve also had this in a 750ml bottle. Not as good in the bottle, but there was nothing left in that bottle either.
