pours ultra dark ruby with excellent carb, large but airy head. yeast and even some hops come out in the aroma, no sticky malt here. a taste reveals some very dark fruits and belgian spice. alcohol is buried but present, yet not offensive, it marries well with the whole. mouthfeel is just the beginnings of syrupy. despite its dark color, dark undertones in the flavor and the mouthfeel, this is surprisingly refreshing! the carb serves well to keep it lightened and fresh. "a great beer" -- a statement coming from a rater thoroughly unimpressed with this style as a whole; this is a wonderful departure.

1 Pt 9.4 fl oz. Dark red orange body with bubbly laced head and yeast floating about. Aromas of light bread, banana, yeasts, spice, slight skunk(but barely noticeable), caramel, toffee, dry hops, light sour apple. Flavors are chop full of variety! I get caramel, spice, bread, toffee, slight apple/cherry ester, undertone of dry hops. Sweet, lightly rich, medium carbonation, alcohol hidden well, slightly bitter, leaves a light candy finish. I truly enjoyed this Belgian ale. Its easy to pass up the complexities in this one, but when you tune your senses, there’s a lot there.

Tap at Rattle n Hum. Pours a semi-clear brown with a large, off-white head. Good fruits in the nose, along with lightly roasted malts, booze and caramel. Sweet flavor, with great toffee, caramel, ripe fruit and scotch. Medium bodied with average carbonation. More sweetness in the finish, along with faint bitter notes. Good stuff.

Nice pour, carbonation, thick foamy head, dark in color. Taste is similar to a scotch ale but with a belgian flare to it, has a bit of a farmhouse taste to it, belgian yeast definitely present. All in all a pretty solid beer, I would recommend it.

Pours a very dark, opaque brown with a white head that stick around. Smells of herbs and resin hops. Very sweet almost candy taste. Light, fluffy body with a fizzy thin texture. A very god belgian ale. I will be revisiting this brew again.

UPDATED: DEC 10, 2011 33 cL bottle into a Mc Chouffe glass in Fiere Margariet in Leuven. Very dark, almost black, with little head, it was perhaps kept a little too cold. Very faint spiced aroma. Pleasant, slightly roasted and spiced taste, with a bit of alcohol. Enjoyable. I prefer it to the blond (and I like that).

pours dark brown with little off-white head. the aroma is fruity, but in the flavor the alcohol appears in a strong way.
