Bien bon.

Bottle. Pours a near black, dark brown with a medium white head. Good lacing and a constant stream of bubbles along the side of the glass. Aroma has dark pitted fruits and roasted caramel malt with a touch of chocolate sweetness. Flavor is rich, but a short lived aftertaste.

Nutty malty aroma and poured a dark opaque brown color. Gorgeous appearance with tons of unfiltered particles floating around and excellent lacing. Tasted notes of spices, caramel, yeast, and bread with a strong finish of alcohol. Overall this is one of the best scotch ales I have ever enjoyed. Scoop it up, it’s worth the money!

I tasted this beer before I got my account with ratebeer, so I can’t really remember all the flavors.

750ml bottle at La Trappe in SF. Hell of a Scotch (Belgian) Ale. Dark brown color, beige head. Yeasty and malty aroma. Caramel, toffee, and candi sugar flavors typical of a Belgian ale with the maltiness you look for in a Scotch ale. Smooth, tasty, and very drinkable.

Red-mahogany with a cream head. Toffee and yeast rule the nose, light butterscotch. Flavor is sweeter but still quite balanced, still showing heavy caramel malt but additionally some wood and alcohol that brings out chocolate and bitter grass in the finish. Creamy, dry beer. One of the better Scotch Ales that I’ve had.

Tap at Rattle n Hum. Mahogany pour with a slight off-white head. Aroma of toffee, pine, and smoke. The flavor is similar: a really good blend of sweet toffee, sharp pine hops, and a soft oak background. Creamy mouthfeel with sharp hops and soft malt in the finish. Lively on the palate and quite enjoyable.

A nice spiced brown ale with some caramel and malt. Good balance, but needs a bit more complexity - perhaps a bit of ageing?
