Very enjoyable belgian scotch (?!) ale. Poured in to McChouffe chalice. Nose is very sweet and a bit alcoholic. In the mouth it is silky smooth with peaty notes and a pronounced spicy belgian yeast finish. Interesting hybrid.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 jarspag (605) - Orange County, California, USA - JUL 12, 2007
Sampled in Italy at a local hole in the wall beer bar. Served way too cold - had to wait on it to warm. Huge frothy head - pretty heavily carbonated. Very easily drinkable but not teeming with flavor or anything to write home about.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 TET (685) - FINLAND - OCT 23, 2010
Dark brown beer with quite big and beige head. Lot of dark fruits in the aroma, also spicyness, raisins and sweetness with hint of sourness. Flavour is quite complex, dark fruitkissel with balancing spicyness and roastiness, also yeasts, overally this is not very sweet beer. Aftertaste is quite dry and complex spicyness is more dominant. Nice and smooth to drink. High-quality, nice and enjoyable beer, even big bottle is interesting without getting bored.

Bottle. Roasted malt, light alcoholic.
Big creamy brown head, long lasting. Black body. Rather sweet start, not bitter, the aftertaste is only a little bit alcoholic.
On the palate the beer is rather medium, creamy and dry with a little bit more carbonation. A really nice beer!

750 mL bottle. Reddish brown pour with very small suspended particles. Large fizzy off-white head fades to a film on top of the beer. Fruity Belgian yeast aroma with earthy toffee notes. Taste is dryer than expected. Toffee, nutty, earthy and that same fruity yeast.

Aromas of cinnamon and spices in addition to characteristic malts but an otherwise uncomplex nose. Perhaps I had it served too cold. Semi-opaque brown. Pours with a big creamy head. Certainly a good beer.
