3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 ilovedarkbeer (1864) - Abilene, Texas, USA - DEC 12, 2007
Not what I expected at all. Pours a cloudy dark brown color with a creamy foamy tan head. Smells of sour wheat and tastes like wheat, sugar, and raisens. The beer is somewhat watery and soft and I would have never guessed that this was 8.5. Alcohol is well hidden and refreshing. This is a scotch ale?

Brown with medium off white head. Sweet flavor with toffee, yeast and fruits. Malty flavor with fruits, spices, tofee and warming alcohol in the end.

A somewhat rocky maybe more frothy light tan head shrinks quickly on top of this murky red brown ale. Afruity belgian aroma rises from the glass. a little banana and a clove or mulled spice scent. interesting subdued and somewhat earthy approach with a full round presence. hops are assertive and tingly throughout the finish and the high alcohol is well contained.

On draft at Issacs.
A pretty, hazy brown pour with a thin, tan head. Aroma of candy, sweet caramel malts and mild hop. The caramel malts instantly disolve in your mouth parting the way for some fruits and spice. A mild bread and spice finish.

Nice...thought this was a Belgian strong or a dubbel when I picked it up...apparently I missed the "Mc" part. Anyway very delicious. Pour was a beautiful dark brown witha 3 finger slightly off white head. Aroma of yeast, dark fruit, leather and spice. Taste was more like a Belgian that a Scotch (just my opinion). Medium carbonation and mouthfeel. Dark fruit and spices are strong. The licorice aftertaste had me gagging, however, as I HATE licorice. It only comes out long after the swallow so I just kept swallowing. Felt a little tipsy afterwards, too.

750 ml bottle. Pours a murky muddy brown with visible carbonation running up the side of my Duvel tulip and an above average size frothy bubbly off white head. Yeasty aroma with notes of bread and raisin. Medium bodied with average carbonation and a dry bread like feel on the palate but the alcohol is hidden nicely. Flavor of yeast, bread and slight vinous notes on the back of the throat. Not really sure why this is a Scotch Ale other then becaue it’s called Mc, actually as a Scotch Ale it should be Mac Chouffe!!

Bottle. Dark brown pour with thick off white head. Aroma of brown sugar and roasted malts. Taste of sugar, malt with a nice even slightly smoky finish.

On draft. Black beer with brown highlights and a lacy, vanilla head. Faint aroma of malts and dark fruits. Awesomely balanced flavor with notes of roasted coffee and prunes. Mildly bitter hops and a touch of whiskey. Lightly dry with a malty-bitter finish.
