McAuslan Scotch Ale is dark ruby red with a tawny head– sweet and malty, with hints of vanilla and butterscotch, and a long hop finish. With 7.2% alcohol, it is the ideal beer to fend off winter chills, but its full flavour makes it a favourite all year round.

After a few years off the market, this scotch ale was reinstated in the McAuslan lineup in late 2005.

En fût. Couleur acajou foncée trouble, mousse beige crémeuse laissant une belle dentelle. Arôme de caramel, malt caramélisé, raisin, touche d’alcool. Goût de malt caramélisé, caramel, sucre d’érable, légère amertume. Carbonatation moyenne, corps moyen.

330ml into a tumbler. Pours a deep ruby-red with minimal head. Malty nose with a bit of vanilla, butterscotch, and light smokiness. A bit tart, with a little caramel; a bit boozy. Medium bodied. Warming.

A beautiful beer, a dusky rusty colour with a creamy light tan head. Sweet notes of caramel, raisin pudding, vanilla and toasty malts get on gregariously with subtle hints of leather, smoke and an earthy bitterness. Bittersweetness veering towards the sweeter side of things, this Scotsman has a lightly oily medium body with soft carbonation. Very tasty stuff here, dangerous too since you can’t taste the booze and it is rather mighty. Great stuff.

This is top notch stuff. Pour is reddish brown with a bit of tan cap. Nose is roasted nuts and grain, butterscotch, vanilla and some nice booziness. Taste follows almost to a T, though it’s surprisingly light and not overly sweet (can’t decide if that’s a complaint or not). There’s also that familiar St ambroise spiciness that seems to show up in all their beers. Overall this is good stuff

Deep red pour with nice big fluffy tan head. Definitely butterscotch in the sweet aroma, with some dried fruits, vanilla and booze. The butterscotch definitely follows through in the taste, along with cherries and vanilla. Some grassy hops and peppery finish help balance out what would otherwise be a quite cloying taste. Some aspects remind me more of a good quadrupel or belgian strong dark ale. Medium bodied. Enjoyable after dinner beer.

Tap, the Tranzac Club, Toronto. Pours reddish brown with small off white head. Sweetish malty aroma. Light, pleasant mouthfeel. Taste quite similar to aroma. Very pleasant.
