COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
McAuslan Scotch Ale is dark ruby red with a tawny head– sweet and malty, with hints of vanilla and butterscotch, and a long hop finish. With 7.2% alcohol, it is the ideal beer to fend off winter chills, but its full flavour makes it a favourite all year round.

After a few years off the market, this scotch ale was reinstated in the McAuslan lineup in late 2005.

Ruddy copper pour with a finger of tan foam that quickly recedes to almost nothing. Aroma of caramel, sweet maltiness, some yeast and a bit of peaty smokiness. Taste of mild smoke, toffee, some dried fruits and herbal hops. Nice warming touch of alcohol with lasting bitter end. A thick ale with good carbonation and great complexity. A great "wee" one.

Bouteille 341ml (2005).

Late 2012 version. Aroma: Caramel with alcohol wrapping. Also toffee and brown sugar with some roasted accents. Nose power between light and average. Appearance: Brown with red glints, very clear, head is rocky, good quantity, long lasting but leaving a very little lacing that disappears fast. Taste: Attack is soft sparkling with alcohol giving all power. Caramel and toffee are dominant and covering all other flavors except a tiny bit of vanilla and cherries. Warming, mellow and round with a lot of body. A fairly good scotch ale, not too sweet and very warming.

Body is medium full, with a degree of sweetness. Big malt complexity. Lightly Bitter, Average-Long duration of flavour lingering post the moderate, near cloying sweet finish - almost a touch vinous. Malty goodness.

Hard to find this beer, especially at a decent price. I picked up the ’WinterFest’ 6 pack (LCBO) which included 2 of these along with 2 Oatmeal and 2 Blonde. I haven’t had one of these in a few years due to limited availability. I really enjoyed this one, and took a long while sipping it slowly. Caramel, slight peat and butterscotch flavour. Well done

355 ml bottle from mix pack, LCBO: deep red beer with bubbly biege head that dissipates rapidly. Aroma of heavy malt and (hey, it’s Christmas) vanilla peppermint sticks. Taste is bold and sweet. A unique and robust ale that offers a nice long bitter end. Pretty remarkable. They’ve done it again.
