McAuslan Scotch Ale is dark ruby red with a tawny head– sweet and malty, with hints of vanilla and butterscotch, and a long hop finish. With 7.2% alcohol, it is the ideal beer to fend off winter chills, but its full flavour makes it a favourite all year round.

After a few years off the market, this scotch ale was reinstated in the McAuslan lineup in late 2005.

Pours a clear dark brown with ruby highlites and a nice brown head that leaves good lace. Aroma of butterscotch, vanilla, caramel, earthy and light fruity esters. Taste is caramel, burnt sugar, nut, light smoke and a caramelized sugar bitterness into the finish. Such a great cloying effect done by the big Aroma and flavor yet it feels somewhat thin on the mouth and it really makes it great that it messes with you like that. Also some nice alcohol warmth on the finish... Solid scotch ale.

341 ml bottle, Calgary, AB, Canada. Deep mahogany brown colour, dark cream head. Strong aroma of clove, raisin and black liquorice. Sweet flavour, very smooth, with burnt caramel and a soy sauce finish. Interesting.

Pours a very deep clear brown with ruby highlights, small off white ring around the glass, and average legs. Aroma is malty, caramelized sugars, earthy and moderate fruity esters. Flavour is rich maltiness, caramelized sugars, faint smoke, earthy, mildly nutty, very mild bitterness, fruity esters(plums, raisins and cherries), goes from sweet to a slightly dry finish and a touch of alcohol in the mix. Nice beer to sip on, on a rather cool/wet day.

Bottle labeled St. Ambroise. Pours a dark mahogany, purplish hue, creamy beige head. Aroma is malty with prune juice. Some burnt caramel with feint port/dark fruit notes.Flavor starts heavy of prune, dark malty caramel flavors emerge more, and then the hops kick in. Hops come out and stay around for too long. It brings the maltiness to a screeching halt and is a bit confusing. Full mouthfeel with dark fruit and ethanol. I could do without the ethanol and the dull hoppy bitterness.
