Hard to find this beer, especially at a decent price. I picked up the íWinterFestí 6 pack (LCBO) which included 2 of these along with 2 Oatmeal and 2 Blonde.
I havenít had one of these in a few years due to limited availability. I really enjoyed this one, and took a long while sipping it slowly. Caramel, slight peat and butterscotch flavour. Well done

355 ml bottle from mix pack, LCBO: deep red beer with bubbly biege head that dissipates rapidly. Aroma of heavy malt and (hey, itís Christmas) vanilla peppermint sticks. Taste is bold and sweet. A unique and robust ale that offers a nice long bitter end. Pretty remarkable. Theyíve done it again.

pours dark ruby red with minimal head, ringed retention, lots of active CO2 streams. Medium-thick caramel malts on the nose. Drinks with a full-bodied richness, dense caramel, malts, light roast, notes of figs, slightly nutty, chocolate, finishing malty with 7/10 sweetness, medium bitter. Medium-high complexity, med-high depth, good transitions, good carry, good drinkability. A solid beer.

Bottle. Dark reddish-brown with very little head. Smells surprisingly like a scotch. Also get dates, treacle and a slight bready aroma.
Flavours of peaty scotch (like Highland Park), burnt malts, treacle maybe even rye (though AFAIK it is not made with rye malts). With this beer it somehow seems that only after you swallow do all the flavours sink into your tongue, like a more quaffable version of scotch. As you progress through the glass, the burnt flavour and smokiness become the predominant flavours. A little sweetness kicks in only after it has really warmed up.
Thereís a lingering bitterness, but it tastes more like it is due to burnt malt rather than hops as the bottle claims.
Fairly thin body, but esters nicely coat the mouth anyway. Warming alcohol. Not a bad drop if you feel like a peaty scotch.

UPDATED: AUG 6, 2012 From bottle pours caramel brown with thin head. Aroma is faint caramel. Flavour is faint caramel with a strong presence of peat malt. Mouthfeel is oily on the tongue, not a lot of carbonation. Good representation of the style.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
[4474-20120608] Tap. Light fruity toasted malt aroma. Clear, dark amber brown body with a medium-lasting creamy off-white head. Sickly sweetened syrupy caramel toasted malt flavour. Medium-full body. Not a fan, quite a cloying finish, and Iím not shy to say this was seriously overpriced for the festival. (5/3/5/3/10) 2.6

Pour out of 12 oz bottle, thanks to Aaron! Dark reddish pour with thin white head, aroma has notes of rich caramel, toffee, biscuit, some smoke, hints of grain, spice, some nice dry bready yeast. Taste is a nice mix of caramel, toffee, biscuit, bread, some slight smoke, earth, touch of grain and grass, finishing fairly dry but with a hint of sweetness. This is pretty tasty.
