Commercial Description:
McAuslan Scotch Ale is dark ruby red with a tawny head– sweet and malty, with hints of vanilla and butterscotch, and a long hop finish. With 7.2% alcohol, it is the ideal beer to fend off winter chills, but its full flavour makes it a favourite all year round.

After a few years off the market, this scotch ale was reinstated in the McAuslan lineup in late 2005.

341mL bottle: Pours clear and dark with a tan head of one finger. Very aromatic. Flavor is lively and complex: Smoke, roasted barley, hops, chocolate and caramelized malt. Has a bold, lasting finish. Very easy to drink for a beer boasting 7.2% alc/vol. Loved it but a little bit pricy.

Bottle shared by mmtmatrix, thanks man. Poured a deep garnett red-brown color with a moderate off-white head that fades to a layer. Aroma of sweet malt with some moderate fruit and a hint of caramel. Sweet, lightly fruity (apple) maltiness with some moderate caramel and a hint of raisin on the finish. Smooth, a bit thin, but some decent dryness on the finish.

Dark bronze color. Filmy, layered foam. Aroma shows a touch of maple, peat, caramel and toast, with a touch of oxidation. Flavor shows a lot of oxidation. Some toast, sweet malts, maple. I don’t care for it.

33cl. Thanks, Glouglouburp! Dig the fancy cardboard can. Pours opaque super-dark brown with a thin, creamy tan head. Decent webby lacing. Brown bready, yeasty, pleasant nose. Medium, creamy body. Caramel, biscuit, not so much on the vanilla and butterscotch the brewer promises. More like brown bread crust. Mild earthy finish. Nice stuff.

Bottle... This beer rocks!... Clear, very dark, ruby ale with a mid-sized, creamy, lightly tanned head. Rich, vinous aroma puts forward generous notes of port wine and a medley of dark fruits. I’m picking up a suggestion of smoke as well. Full-bodied and oily with modest carbonation. Sweet port and dark fruits blend nicely with light chocolate and minerals. Chocolaty-sweet, vinous finish. These guys get it! Thanks to mcbackus for sharing this world class brew!
