UPDATED: DEC 13, 2010 341ml bottle. purchased 4 pack for $9 from the grocery store. pours dark amber orange with a thick foamy off white head that quickly dissipates. lots of spices going on in the aroma. cinnamon, ginger, clove, along with pumpkin of course. nutmeg really comes out in the taste. this beer really tastes like pumpkin pie, with a mild hops finish. lovely. the mouthfeel is thin and very carbonated. very impressed with this one. i’ll be serving this for the family on thanksgiving dinner. another great product from McAuslan.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer porued a dark ruby brown colro with a medium sized creamy orange-tan head that lingered and left a bit of lacing. The aroma was cinnamon, nutmeg, Dr Pepper and bread. The flavor was cinnamon, nutmeg, bread, clove and Dr Pepper. Medium length finish. Medium body. Meh.

Pours a clear copper topped by a timid fizzy tanned head fading quickly. The nose is pumpkin spice, nutmeg, ginger, cola. The taste brings the spices forward with a mild sweetness through a medium body. The brew would benefit from more carbonation to add sharpness to the attack. The finish is midly liquorish and the drinkability is so-so. Cheers!

Light translucent red with tan head but not much lacing. Strong pumpkin aroma with typical pumpkin pie spices and a little apricot and prunes. Nice full pumpkin flavor with nutmeg, ginger, dark fruits, and a little white pepper bite. Medium bodied.

Copper with a thin, fizzy white head. Smells of pumpkin spice and stale bitter. Nutmeg and cinnamon. Tastes of sweet caramel with nutmeg and a bitter malt finish. Light oily body. Drinkable enough but not exciting. Had way better pumpkin beers.

It pours light amber in color with a full head that leaves some lacing on the glass. It has the aroma of pumpkin, apple, cinnamon, and brown sugar. That taste has pumpkin, apples, brown sugar, sweet and tangy. It has a decent flavor, but a little watery.

341ml bottle purchased at the LCBO in Peterborough, Ontario. Murky rust in colour with a large long lasting off-white head, good lacing. The aroma is of light spice, brown sugar, pie crust. The flavour is fairly mild, some pumpkin, moderate spice, some cookies, good sweetness. Spicy mouthfeel, medium/light body, moderate carbonation. Finishes sweet with pumpkins and spice.

12oz bottle from local store. Pours a nice deep amber color. A bit lacking in aroma that smells of watery cinnamon and nutmeg. The taste more than makes up for this though with plenty of spice and some ginger lacing the pumpkin flavor. Aftertaste lingers pleasantly, making this a beer you want to take your time with to enjoy. Unfortunately a bit pricey here ($10 for a 4-pack) but I would buy it again.

12oz bottle labelled as St. Ambroise Pumpkin pours with a clear deep copper body that supports a thin tan head. The aroma offers up sugary malt sweetness, some sweet ripe red apples and then mild pumpkin and cinnamon like spiciness. The taste starts sugary sweet with malts and sweet fruitiness that takes on a pumpkin to apple like sense. Behind those notes murmurs some nutmeg and cinnamon spices that deliver a bit of a punch here and there and then fade into the finish and linger softly for a while. This seems so so as it doesn’t really come together all that well.

Bottled as St. Ambroise Pumpkin, screw-top. Nose is spice soup, sweet with lots of nutmeg and allspice, lesser mint in with actual pumpkin character down low. Pour is a beautiful deep mahogany with rays of red and orange, slow carbonation but a noisy fizz form a soapy beige head. Taste very sweet, pleasant perfume character but a thin light body with little malt to support, low bitterness with a little more in the aftertaste after the artificial spice train has passed. Way overdone, boys!

Pumpkin87 (117) - - NOV 16, 2014
La grande bière à la citrouille is one of the most aromatic beers made, serve in a goblet and give it time to open up. Pours a beautiful clear red-orange, with small-moderate head that quickly reduces to thin surface lace. Aroma of a holiday kitchen: pumpkin and dark fruits, spices, vanilla. Prominent spicy pumpkin on the tongue with brown sugar note, but not overly sweet. Smooth, light and fizzy, with restrained dry but not harsh finish. Festive enough for celebrations, but 5 percent ABV makes it sessionable throughout the season.
