We hope you enjoy this Stoke Dark. We make it the old fashioned way and never cut corners. It’s brewed using Nelson’s famous organic hops, premium malt, our own bespoke yeast and 14,000 year old Paleo water (no artificial additivs or colouring). Stoke is tank conditioned over 3 weeks - that’s where the hint of honey and smooth mouthfeel coem from. Next time you’re in Nelson, come and meet the team at our family brewery!

330ml bottle. Attractive appearance; dark brown hue with ruby highlights, thick large foamy tan head quickly diminishes leaving good lacing. Pleasant aromas; moderate heavy malty - chocolate, coffee, roasty toasty slightly burnt malt, toffee, leather, smoke. Tastes great; moderate heavy bitter, moderate sweet. Smooth palate as promised, medium to full body, velvety texture, light carbonation, dry bitter-sweet astringent finish. I have to say that I have many porters better than this but for a ’supermarket’ available beer this is really good.

Pours a brownish black color. Aroma and taste are roasted malts and a mildly bitter finish.

(Bottle) Very dark, essentially black, with small short-lived tan head. Subtle, fresh, grainy aroma. Light body with good soft plentiful carbonation. Taste is balanced mix of burnt, flinty and sour notes with little malt, and some bitterness in finish. One of my least favorite beer styles, however this is very drinkable.

Clear dark beer, small head which recede very quickly, standard carbonation with a good amount of good roasted malt aromas like coffee and chocolate. The flavor is quite simple, with some notes of dark chocolate and some bitterness at the end, but the mouthfeel is rather watery.

Bottle. Nice bitterness and malty flavour straight up but doesn’t linger. Light and surprisingly crisp for a porter. Easy to drink a few, but lacking in body.

BB 26.3.2014. Poured an opaque black colour with a very slight mahogany tint at the edges and developed a thin light tan bubbly head that quickly diminished to a bubble line. laced poorly. Aroma of chocolate and a hint of coffee. Taste dominated by roasted grain. Light body - a bit lighter than I was expecting. Smooth with a long roasted grain finish.

Bottled 33 cl from Dan Murphy’s Geelong, on August 2, 2013.
Clear dark red to black color, light brown head. Sweet, fruity, tobacco scent. Malty, sweet, grainy taste. Medium mouthfeel, medium high dry bitterness. Grainy aftertaste. Some chocolate scent too.

33cl bottle. Pours opaque black but with chestnut tinge. There is a thin crema head some of which hangs around. The nose has millionaire shortbread but also raisins, so it’s fruit and nut bar, really. The taste has dark chocolate and liquorice. The palate is medium bodied with a drying finish. Overall, amazing nose but lacks it in the other department.
