We hope you enjoy this Stoke IPA. We make it the old fashioned way and never cut corners. It’s brewed using a combination of premium Nelson hops including Pacific Gem, Cascade, Motueka and Styrian Golding, bespoke yeast, 14,000 year old Paleso™ water and lightly toasted malt (no artificial additives or colouring). Stoke IPA is tank conditioned over 4 weeks to ensure a smooth caramel sweetness and hangover-free experience.

Almost zero head with very little carbonation. Not much on the nose, just a trace of slightly fruity hops. Similar taste. A minuscule amount of caramel sweetness to start and then awfully bitter skunky hops which overpower everything else and linger long after the mouthful has been swallowed. However, despite this there is pretty much no body or texture. It goes down like water with no finishing mouthfeel. Very disappointing.

330ml bottle on Christchurch tram restaurant. Hazy amber beer with thin head. Deep malt nose. Easy-drinking, slight fizz. Earthy bitter finish with touches of stonefruit. Chalky mouthfeel. Nice quaffer.

Great concept this brewery, helped to catapult craft beer into the average uneducated beer swilling kiwi’s fridge (like myself). But unfortunately this particular beer just doesn’t work for me. There are oodles of better Kiwi brewed IPA’s out there, without naming any here. Just don’t quite get the flavour of this one, has a mouldy, bitter aftertaste, but nothing else to report..However this brew aside, quite a number of their other brews are very well worthy of a visit. And I did finish my six pack. Go the All Blacks! Ah sorry, this beer I have swilled down was the IPA Late Hop Pale Ale. And actually., I didn’t mind them over that time. So a re-rate is due. From 2.5 to 3.0 Actually quite a session-able beer, but I have other favourites.

Bought at Chen Lien in New Taipei City. Nose is sort of crisp hops with a slight soily smell to it..which ends up smelling like chocolate. Colour is a slightly cloudy lager colour. Solid white head that dissipates after a couple of minutes. After the pour the hops and chocolate become more apparent on the nose. Taste is clean and sharp with a good hoppy edge... finishing with a slightly bitter taste in your mouth ...( but in a good way). It reminds me of how Sam Adams used to taste before my palette became accustomed to it. For that reason I assume it uses some American hops. Many of the reviews are rather harsh. I would drink this again for sure.

A malty aroma with a hint of caramel. Pours a pale gold color with a thin white head. A malty taste with a watery feel and a dry malt finish.

Bottle from World Beer Market (Sake no Taniguchi). Light fruity nose, prunes, bread. Light copper color, little head. Thin prunes, raisins, grain, and light bittering. Thin-medium body. Not so good. Flavors seem quite off.

Bottled sample from mlcc...Enjoyed the 14,000 year old water in spite of its age. lots of flavor here. Would like to try some more from this brewery.

Translucent, nearly opaue muddy orange hue containing no head. Interesting aromatics consisting of caramel malt, mild roast and chocolate, as well as citrus and spruce. Light bodied. Absolutely appalling taste. Malt is present, but lacking in flavour that’s present in the scent. Mildly bitter hops are present as well, but they lack any flavour as well. Bland malt leading to slight bitterness with no fruity notes.

Draft. Pours gold with a white head. Grainy and lightly sweet malts, generic hoppy bitterness, and not a lot of aromatics or any real distinguishable hop character. Not bad, but not that good either.

Bottle into IPA glass. Pours a hazy copper colour with small white head. Aroma is overripe tropical fruits. Taste is fruity with a little bitterness. Decent beer.

UPDATED: SEP 23, 2015 oh my fucking god. This is what I get for not having my phone with me and going against better judgement. aaaand i think its green glass. OOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! The description says they used trademarked 14,000 year old water. What the hell is that. Anyway. At least it leans to the English side of things like they claim. Caramel, grains, bit of veggie taste, light acidic quality after 10 sips in 20 seconds. Not terrible but painful because I just dropped 17$ and I have 5 more. I also see that they claim that I will have a ’hangover-free experience’. Well, duh, because after 1 you’ll lose motivation to drink another.

***Update, 14 mins later..***
Ok, I lied. I’m drinking another one.
