1.6 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20
Clear, slightly hazy orange coloured body with a bit of a bronze glow and a thin, half a centimetre tall white head. Aroma of grass, medicine and a hint of stale malt - no hops at all, and a very mild scent for sure. Light-bodied; Grassy and herbal flavours up front with a strong dose of perfumey hops and a little stale malt and alcohol flavours noticeable. Aftertaste shows only stale malt, odd funky notes and no complexity and more importantly - no hops. Overall, a pretty bad offering and nowhere close to an IPA, APA or anything with hops in it. Definitely pass up on this, even if it isn’t horribly expensive - it’s not worth a single US$. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from Belmont Station in Portland, Oregon on 12-April-2013 for US$3.98 sampled at home in Washington on 20-June-2013.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Pours clear light amber with a small white head that dissipates with nice lacing. Aroma is spruce, pine, grain. Flavor its the same, kind of lagery actually, medium sweet with very light bitterness. As a hot summer day session beer this isn’t bad. As an IPA, meh.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
33cl bottle from Vino.
Appearance - cloudy orange with a slim head which disappears fairly quickly.
Nose - honey and cereal, just a touch of citrus.
Taste - more of the same but not quite as refreshing as the nose suggests. Some soapiness on top of the honey and malt.
Palate - light to medium bodied with a similar texture and a clean finish.
Overall - a solid and very sessionable IPA.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Tap at Beervana 2011. Average. Of the four on show at the McCashin’s stand this was easily the worst. Just sessionable without having much going on

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
I take reviewing beer rather seriously. I like to savour beers that are fine examples of their style, search for exotic beers on shop shelves and physically go to breweries to find new beers to review. For this particular beer, I made sure that I didn’t just assess the one. It came in a six pack and a few of those got a bloody good seeing to.
First of all, it appeared orange in the glass with a temporary white head that left good lace down the glass. Aromas of dry caramel, orange peel, gooseberry and grapefruit translate easily into the flavour with a nice bite of bitterness. It was easy, approachable and sessionable.
I looked at some of the other reviews that I felt were a little too critical and to an extent, they’re fair enough. However, this is one of those beers that will warm the nervous first timer to the style and provide those who take their beers seriously something to look for in the fridge of their local as it becomes more widely spread. I would buy this beer again, quite happily.
