Rather raison and figgy malt flavor with a coffee base and some woody flavors in the finish. Not a bad scotch ale and the alcohol is detectable as it should be.

UPDATED: SEP 29, 2009 Resinous, waxy, leathery snout evocative of Schlenkerla Rauchbier Marzen, minus the charred beechwood of course. What the hell is that?? Deep ruby pour, beautifully conditioned off-white head and lace. Silky, bittersweet and ever-so-slightly roasty. Running the Goose Island IPA a close second as Beer Of The Evening. (747416) RERATE. Damp sock filled with Allsorts and Muscavado for a snout, lightly smoked. With prunes squeezed on it. Jellied orange detectable like SN Winter Hop. Clear ruby and beige lacing all the way. Fennel seed enrobed in molasses, Bertie Basset, big bite of cake. Well short of sickliness. Bittering hop and liquorice making the whole thing rather dangerous. Doppelbock nips, gnaw of card. Sinks nicely by the half litre. A Yorkshire classic.

Bottle. Malty hopypy and creamy aromas with alcohol and spicy undertones. Pours an opaque brownish red coloured beer with a beige foam head. Soft mouthfeel, creamy, some oily texture. Taste is sweet, very hoppy. Some carbonation, spice, aclohol and hoppy finish. Quite tasty although the alcohol content begins to wear thin once the beer has warmed up some.

27.09.2009, 0,5l Bottle. Colour is brown with a thick off-white head. Aroma is rich sweet caramel malt. The syrupy maltiness is well balanced with the alcohol. The beer ia also bitter, but the aftertaste is surprisingly soft and short

Test vom 29.11.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche

Bottle. Red brown with a handsome beige head. Lovely sweet malt nose. Very malty flavour. Lightly bitter with an undeniable alcohol presence. Sticky mouthfeel. Burnt sugar. A lot going on. A fine beer.
